NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The School of Music at Stephen F. Austin State University will host Pineywoods Horn Day 2022 Saturday, Feb. 19, in Wright Music Building on the SFA campus.

The all-day event will feature a presentation by and master class with Nacogdoches native and SFA alumnus John Dickson, along with clinics and sessions with Dr. Tamey Anglley, director of bands at SFA; Dr. Andrea Denis, assistant professor of horn at SFA; and noted horn instructors Karen Houghton and Janet Nye.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas –  The Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band at Stephen F. Austin State University will present “Messages of Hope,” a program featuring works that evoke hope, encouragement and healing, when the student ensembles perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, in the Grand Ballroom in the Baker Pattillo Student Center on the SFA campus.

Directed by Dr. Chris Kaatz, assistant director of bands at SFA, the Symphonic Band’s program explores the idea of “hope amidst tragedy,” Kaatz said.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The everyday lives of the citizens of the small fictional American town of Grover’s Corners will come to life on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University when the School of Theatre presents the multi award-winning play by Thornton Wilder, “Our Town.”

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The School of Music at Stephen F. Austin State University will present “Girl Power,” a concert featuring art songs for voice and piano written by women composers, at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 7, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

The performance will include works by Margaret Bonds, Jennifer Higdon, Lori Laitman, Maria Theresia von Paradies and Caitlin Vincent.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – A planned Feb. 8 performance by the A Cappella Choir at Stephen F. Austin State University to present the program the ensemble plans to perform at the Texas Music Educators Association annual convention has been closed to the public due to Covid concerns.

Dr. Michael Murphy, director of choral activities for the SFA School of Music, said the decision to close the concert to the public is a precautionary measure as the choir prepares for its performance at the TMEA event in San Antonio Feb. 9 through 12.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas –The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre will present the student-directed one-act play “In Shakespeare and the Bible” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5, in Regents Suite A in the Baker Pattillo Student Center on the SFA campus.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University was recently reaffirmed in its accreditation following a months-long process that produced a 508-page granular assessment of all aspects of the school, from student success to credentialing for faculty members.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Ticket sales for Stephen F. Austin State University’s student-run Culinary Café and Lumberjack Express mobile food lab will open at 8 a.m. Monday, Jan. 31.

Tickets for the Culinary Café are $10 and include a three-course meal, along with tea, coffee and water. Tickets are not limited but quickly sell out.
