Forestry students represent SFA, receive statewide recognition at the 2022 Texas Chapter of The Wildlife Society conference


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Ten undergraduate students and five graduate students represented Stephen F. Austin State University’s Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture at the 2022 Texas Chapter of The Wildlife Society conference held last week in Horseshoe Bay. 

In addition to oral and poster presentations delivered by students, the SFA student chapter of The Wildlife Society placed second in the statewide Quiz Bowl, finishing only one point behind the winning team. 

Horticulture consultant Steve Dobbs to be SFA Gardens’ March lecture series speaker


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s SFA Gardens will host the monthly Les and Theresa Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 10, in the Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, located at 2900 Raguet St. 

Steve Dobbs, a horticulture consultant with Oklahoma State University’s Landscape Services, will present “Creative Design and Horticulture on the Oklahoma State University Campus.” 

SFA, Keep Nacogdoches Beautiful and the City of Nacogdoches to host litter cleanup of Lanana Creek and Lake Nacogdoches


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — In recognition of the United Nations World Water Day, Stephen F. Austin State University, the City of Nacogdoches and Keep Nacogdoches Beautiful invite the surrounding community to participate in a litter cleanup of Lanana Creek and Lake Nacogdoches’ Eastside Park from 10 a.m. to noon March 19.

“We are extremely fortunate for the water resources available to us in East Texas, and it is important that we are good stewards of this precious supply,” said Sarah Fuller, outreach coordinator with SFA’s Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture.

SFA’s Contemporary Ensemble to present ‘Live From the Studio’


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Contemporary Ensemble at Stephen F. Austin State University will present its first “Live From the Studio” event at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 3, on the School of Music YouTube channel.

In collaboration with SFA’s fine arts video and lighting production teams, the Contemporary Ensemble will perform music by Chau, Kiltro, FJK and Tom Misch and Palmas.

SFA School of Social Work kicks off Social Work Month with proclamation event


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– A proclamation event will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 1, at Stephen F. Austin State University’s School of Social Work Building to kick off a number of events honoring Social Work Month. 

Nacogdoches County Commissioner Robin Dawley will deliver the proclamation to the SFA School of Social Work’s leadership team, with social work students, faculty, field instructors and staff in attendance. 

SFA’s School of Human Sciences fundraiser to feature Kentucky Derby-themed dining experience


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University hospitality program students will host the Kentucky Derby fundraising event at 6 p.m. April 1 at the Fredonia Hotel.

Themed “The Winner’s Circle,” the event will feature a four-course dining experience inspired by traditional Kentucky Derby dishes. A cocktail reception with a cash bar will open an hour prior to the meal, and silent and live auctions will take place throughout the evening. 

Regional basketball club tournament held at SFA Student Recreation Center


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s Campus Recreation recently hosted the regional basketball tournament featuring 12 total teams in both men’s and women’s competitions.

The National Intramural and Recreational Sports Association’s South Division had its Club Basketball Conference Tournament at the Student Recreation Center on Feb. 19 and 20. The event brought as many as 150 student-athletes to town.

SFA announces recipients of inaugural 2022 Center for Applied Research and Rural Innovation grants


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University has announced the recipients of its inaugural Center for Applied Research and Rural Innovations grants. 

The CARRI grants were created in fall 2021 as part of SFA’s infrastructure fostering innovation and entrepreneurship activity leading to a more robust and vibrant economy in SFA’s 12-county region.

SFA announces Elkins High School as Distinguished High School Program partner


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — On Thursday, Stephen F. Austin State University announced its naming of Elkins High School as a partner school chosen for inclusion in the university’s Distinguished High School Program.
