SFA business students selected for UTIMCO Scholars program


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Three students from Stephen F. Austin State University’s Rusche College of Business were selected for The University of Texas/Texas A&M Investment Management Company Scholars program this year.

Iris Cordova, finance junior from Nacogdoches; Julian Ieva, accounting junior from Houston; and Conner Stover, finance junior from Apple Springs, were the first three SFA students chosen for this opportunity, which was made possible by the university’s affiliation with the UT System last year.

EcoAdventures: A Homeschool Journey into Nature


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Homeschool K-12 students are invited to “EcoAdventures: A Homeschool Journey into Nature” from 1-3 p.m. Sept. 16 at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center. Students in grades K-5 will experience nature-based activities that model the life stages of trees, the essential needs of animals, animal adaptations for survival, and methods of plant seed dispersal.

SFA’s Center for Teaching and Learning announces new director


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Dr. Cynthia (Cindy) Kilpatrick is the new director of the Center for Teaching and Learning at Stephen F. Austin State University. Kilpatrick brings a wealth of experience and a strong commitment to enhancing the educational experience for both faculty and students.

USDA grant awarded to SFA’s College of Forestry and Agriculture for conservation project


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Stephen F. Austin State University’s Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture was awarded a Conservation Innovation Grant from the United States Department of Agriculture to assist in the creation of a demonstration area for climate-smart agricultural practices.

Former regent to address SFA graduates during August commencement


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Dr. Scott Coleman, clinical associate professor at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston School of Dentistry and Stephen F. Austin State University alumnus and former regent, will give the commencement address during SFA’s graduation ceremony at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, in Johnson Coliseum.

Coleman received a bachelor's degree in biology from SFA in 1980 and graduated first in his class from UTHealth Houston School of Dentistry with a doctorate in dental surgery.

SFA Gardens lecture to feature gardening as a lifestyle, not a hobby


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Stephen F. Austin State University’s SFA Gardens will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Aug. 8 in the Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center. 

Steven Chamblee, retired director of horticulture with the Longview Arboretum and Nature Center, will present “Am I Tired or Just Retired? Gardening as a Lifestyle and Not a Hobby.”
