SFA Gardens lecture to discuss “growing plants where plants don’t want to grow”
NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Stephen F. Austin State University’s SFA Gardens will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Sept. 12 in the Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center.
Dr. Whitney Griffin, landscape software product manager, will present “The Art of Growing Plants Where Plants Don’t Want to Grow.”
SFA’s Music Prep welcomes new piano, voice instructors
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Two new talents have joined the teaching staff of Stephen F. Austin State University’s Music Preparatory Division.
Directed by Alba Madrid, Music Prep is a division of SFA’s School of Music and offers private and group lessons in voice and various instruments along with performance opportunities in the Pineywoods Youth Orchestra, SFA Children’s Chorus and Youth Choir, among other groups
Mezzo-soprano Diana Grabowski and pianist James Faucett have recently joined the Music Prep faculty.
SFA students explore businesses, historical sites in Croatia
NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Nearly 20 Stephen F. Austin State University students kicked off this fall’s “Discovering Business” course in the Rusche College of Business with a trip to Croatia at the end of July.
The course, now in its second year and focusing on its second country, is designed to introduce incoming first-year students and nonbusiness majors to business concepts and principles while helping them meet fellow Lumberjacks and faculty members before the fall semester starts.
SFA’s Arnold Center for Entrepreneurship hosts summer camp for local teens
NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Nearly 70 East Texas students from grade 6 through 10 got a head start on their entrepreneurial dreams in July at the Stephen F. Austin State University Arnold Center for Entrepreneurship’s CTE Summer Camp.
ACE, part of SFA’s Rusche College of Business, hosted the teens from 12 schools across six districts at two summer sessions. The center partnered with Startup High as well as local businesses and industries to show how entrepreneurship in career and technical education, or CTE, jobs can open doors and opportunities.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Stephen F. Austin State University’s annual School of Art Faculty Exhibition will show Aug. 20 through Oct. 18 in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches. An opening reception is planned for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 29.
