SFA’s Popular, Commercial Music Ensembles to perform


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin State University’s Sound Recording Technology groups, the Popular Music Ensemble and Commercial Music Ensemble, will perform concerts starting at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 26, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the SFA campus.

Percussion Ensemble to present spring concert, premiere of Chlup’s ‘Shattered Hearts’


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Percussion Ensemble at Stephen F. Austin State University will present its annual spring concert, which will include the world premiere of SFA percussionist Carson Chlup’s “Shattered Hearts,” when the student music group performs at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 26, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

SFA announces 2024 Teaching Excellence Award recipients


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Seven Stephen F. Austin State University faculty members recently were selected to receive Teaching Excellence Awards.

The award program is an opportunity to recognize outstanding faculty members for their contributions to the university through excellence as teachers. Each of the university’s six colleges selects a member of its faculty to receive an award. One SFA Faculty Senate member from among all colleges also is chosen.

Stone Fort Wind Quintet concert honors works of Schickele, aka P.D.Q. Bach


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stone Fort Wind Quintet at Stephen F. Austin State University will present a recital of programmatic works featuring a varied collection of musical depictions when the faculty ensemble performs at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 24, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

Symphonic Band, University Band to present old, new, borrowed, blue musical imagery


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Symphonic Band and the University Band at Stephen F. Austin State University will present “Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue” featuring music faculty and student and community ensemble performances at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, in W.M. ‘Real Women Have Curves’ sends important messages of self-worth, authenticity


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The importance of recognizing one’s beauty, self-worth and value is reflected in the play “Real Women Have Curves” to be presented by the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre and Dance.

“Real Women Have Curves” by Josefina López sends “a profound message about self-image and body positivity, emphasizing the importance of embracing your true self and rejecting society's narrow standards of beauty,” according to Michelle Guerrero, sophomore theatre major from Magnolia and the play’s stage manager.

Community Beer Co. founder and SFA alumnus to discuss entrepreneurship


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Kevin Carr, a 1992 Stephen F. Austin State University finance graduate and owner of Community Beer Co. in Dallas, will be the speaker at the Rusche College of Business College to Career Conference keynote session from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. April 25 in the McGee Business Building, Room 133, on the SFA campus. The event is free and open to the public.

UT System affiliation allows SFA to expand mental health services, partner with virtual well-being provider


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Through funding made available as a result of Stephen F. Austin State University’s affiliation with The University of Texas System, SFA has partnered with virtual health and well-being provider, TimelyCare, as part of the university’s ongoing commitment to provide and improve health and well-being services to its student body. The partnership, which began in January, greatly expands and streamlines existing services and adds new opportunities for students to seek mental and physical health support.

SFA lecture series speaker shares secrets to entrepreneurial success


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Candace Nelson, guest Shark for ABC’s “Shark Tank” and founder of Sprinkles Cupcakes and Pizzana, served as the speaker for the fourth installment of Stephen F. Austin State University’s Nelson Rusche Distinguished Lecture Series, which took place March 26.

The series, hosted by SFA’s Rusche College of Business, is designed to bring scholars and business leaders to SFA's campus to discuss timely issues and educate the next generation of business leaders while enriching the SFA and Nacogdoches communities.
