SFA School of Theatre and Dance to offer exciting 2022-23 performance lineup


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The School of Theatre and Dance at Stephen F. Austin State University has an exciting production schedule for the 2022-23 academic year that will, in part, celebrate the addition of SFA’s dance program to the Micky Elliott College of Fine Arts.

Cleo House Jr., director of the School of Theatre and Dance, and Heather Samuelson, associate professor of dance, are looking forward to the opportunities this new collaboration can provide for students, as well as for others who may benefit.

SFA’s Dr. Heather Olson Beal selected as congressional fellow


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s Dr. Heather Olson Beal, a professor in the James I. Perkins College of Education’s Department of Education Studies, was recently selected by the American Educational Research Association to serve as a congressional fellow.

Olson Beal heads to Washington soon to work alongside staff for either a congressional office or committee, where she’ll serve as an expert in education.

The yearlong appointment, buoyed by an $80,000 stipend, begins Sept. 1.

SFA Music Prep fall class registration underway


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Registration is underway for fall classes in the Music Preparatory Division of the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music, according to Alba Madrid, Music Prep director.

SFA launches hub to offer students faster access to holistic health and wellness services


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University has combined six of its key health and wellness resources into one centralized hub so students can get help faster when they need it.

Part of SFA’s Lumberjack Wellness Network, the new Health and Wellness Hub includes Health Services, Counseling Services, Student Outreach and Support, the Lumberjack Food Pantry, and a Chartwells dietitian. It also provides access to services at the Family Crisis Center of East Texas off campus.

SFA’s School of Social Work to offer Doctorate of Social Work program


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Following recent approval from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, Stephen F. Austin State University’s School of Social Work will begin offering a Doctorate of Social Work program in spring 2023, officially becoming the university’s fourth doctoral-level degree option. 

SFA vocal music majors awarded TCDA scholarships


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Five Stephen F. Austin State University vocal music education students have been awarded scholarships from the Texas Choral Directors Association for the 2022-23 academic year.

Music Prep graduate furthering piano studies; hopes to help others reach potential, realize dreams


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Antonio “Nio” Ajero is known throughout wide-reaching piano circles as an exceptional pianist and musician – having won multiple awards at state, national and international music festivals or competitions; having received acceptance and scholarship offers from renowned music schools and conservatories; and having been awarded performances with noted symphony orchestras in Texas and at the Brevard Music Festival in North Carolina – all of which he achieved before high school graduation.

SFA Gardens to host fruit research field day


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s SFA Gardens will host a fruit research field day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 30 featuring kiwifruit, muscadine grapes, blueberries, figs, feijoas and other fruits.
 
Speakers will include Dr. David Creech, director of SFA Gardens, and Dr. Tim Hartmann and Dr. Justin Scheiner, both of Texas A&M University’s Department of Horticultural Sciences.
