SFA Gardens to host summer plant sale


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s SFA Gardens will host a houseplant and succulent summer sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 8 at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center greenhouse, located at 2900 Raguet St. 

The sale will feature succulents, cacti and houseplants of various varieties, plus a small assortment of a few other plant types. This sale will be a much smaller event than the SFA Gardens semi-annual plant sales and will offer a specific selection of plants intended for indoor or special care. 

SFASU Foundation announces 2023 Faculty Achievement Award recipients


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The Stephen F. Austin State University Foundation announced its Faculty Achievement Award recipients for 2023. Dr. Deb Scott, professor in the School of Music, was presented the Faculty Achievement Award for research and creativity, and Dr. Jeremy Stovall, professor in the Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture, was presented the Faculty Achievement Award for teaching. 

Survey shows high career placement rate, positive trends for SFA graduates


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Nearly 90% of Stephen F. Austin State University’s May 2022 graduating class reported positive career outcomes within six months of graduation, according to a class-specific survey conducted by the university’s Center for Career and Professional Development.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — He collects, organizes, indexes and safeguards Stephen F. Austin State University’s history through its archival collections. He helps students, faculty, staff and community members conduct in-depth research on East Texas. He interviews alumni about their experiences at SFA. He speaks with donors on topics ranging from East Texas lumber towns to World War II tanks. 

Registration underway for SFA Art Academies


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The School of Art at Stephen F. Austin State University has opened registration for its 2023 summer art camps.
 
The SFA Art Academies are offered for older students as well as elementary age students, according to Dr. Maggie Leysath, professor of art education in the School of Art. 
 

Veterans Resource Center hosts inaugural veteran’s graduation luncheon


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s Veterans Resource Center hosted its inaugural veteran’s graduation luncheon Wednesday, May 3, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Twilight Ballroom to honor military-connected students graduating this month. 

This is one of several new initiatives begun by Stesha Colby-Lynch, the newly appointed VRC program director, who said she is working to build up a veteran support network on campus. 

SFA Gardens to host inaugural Spectacular Science Saturday workshop


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s SFA Gardens will host its first Spectacular Science Saturday workshop from 9 a.m. to noon June 17 at the Brundrett Conservation Education Building.

Families with school-aged children are invited to join Dr. Alan Sowards, environmental education program director, in an exploration of science through activities, demonstrations and games designed to involve parents in the science learning experience.

SFA chemistry student accepted into honor society


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — M. Grace Thornhill, Redwater senior chemistry major at Stephen F. Austin State University, has been selected to be inducted into the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Honor Society.

The honor society recognizes students for their scholarly achievements, research and outreach. Selected students actively participate in their ASBMB student chapter, maintain a minimum GPA of 3.4 and demonstrate achievement in undergraduate research and science outreach.

SFA students compete in ‘Trailblazers’ American Advertising Federation event


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – American Advertising Federation student team members from Stephen F. Austin State University presented their "Trailblazers" collaborative marketing communications design campaign to client sponsor Indeed.com at the AAF District 10 competition held recently in Austin.
 
SFA art, marketing and mass communications students developed a comprehensive marketing plan to help 18- to 24-year-olds discover job opportunities through the Indeed.com website.
 

SFA students pitch business ideas at second annual entrepreneurship competition


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — From board games to muscle car parts to fireproof stucco, Stephen F. Austin State University students pitched their business ideas to win the second annual “Shark Tank” style Lumberjack Entrepreneurship Competition April 21.
