Artist James Drake to present lecture at SFA


James Drake, the juror for Stephen F. Austin State University's "Texas National 2011," will give an artist lecture at 5:30 p.m. Friday, April 8, in the SFA Music Building, Room 160.

Out-of-this-world artist to speak at SFA


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Apollo 12 astronaut Alan Bean, the fourth man to walk on the moon and an award-winning artist, will be the featured guest at the 2011 installment of the Archie McDonald Speaker Series at Stephen F. Austin State University.

The event is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 14, in the Grand Ballroom of the Baker Pattillo Student Center on the SFA campus.

SFA University Series closes with American Bluegrass Masters Tour


Grand Ole Opry member Bobby Osborne and his band, the Rocky Top X-Press, will be one of four groups and solo artists performing during the American Bluegrass Masters Tour concert to be presented as a part of the Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts' University Series at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 7, in W.M.

SFA to highlight undergraduate research at conference


Undergraduate academic achievements and research will be recognized at the annual Undergraduate Research Conference at Stephen F. Austin State University from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 7, in Regent's Suite A and the Twilight Ballroom of the Baker Pattillo Student Center.

SFA Piney Woods Camerata to perform baroque music


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The SFA College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present the Piney Woods Camerata at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, April 10, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

The conductor-less ensemble formed in 2007, is composed of SFA string faculty members Drs. Jennifer Dalmas (violin) and Evgeni Raychev (cello) together with select SFA string students. The group is dedicated to performing music from the baroque and classical periods. For the April 10 concert, pianist Dr. Geneva Fung, SFA staff accompanist, will join the group.

Six area artists accepted to 'Texas National 2011'


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The School of Art at Stephen F. Austin State University has announced that works by six Nacogdoches and Lufkin artists will be included in "TEXAS NATIONAL 2011," which will open with a 6 to 8:30 p.m. reception Saturday, April 9, in the Ledbetter Gallery of The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, located at 329 E. Main St. in downtown Nacogdoches. The show will run through Saturday, May 21.

Two guest artist recitals scheduled at SFA

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music will present two guest artist recitals during the first full week in April. Violinist Gary Levinson and pianist Daredjan Kakouberi will perform at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5. At 7:30 p.m.

SFA Wind Ensemble to present 'Monuments' concert


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Musical compositions with some sort of monumental aspect will be presented by the Stephen F. Austin State University Wind Ensemble during its "Monuments" concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, in W.M. Turner Auditorium.

The featured work will be David Maslanka's Symphony No. 8, which SFA Director of Bands Fred J. Allen calls an "epic work." "The SFA bands have been part of commissions for pieces by David Maslanka on three previous occasions, so we are always interested in his latest compositions."

SFA Theatre to present student-directed 'Stop Kiss'


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre will present a student-directed production of Diana Son's "Stop Kiss" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 8, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 9. All performances will be in the Downstage Theatre located on the first floor of the Griffith Fine Arts Building, 2222 Alumni Dr. on the SFA campus.

Emmy Award-winning actor to appear at SFA


Emmy Award-winning screen and stage actor Anthony Zerbe comes to SFA.

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Emmy Award-winning screen and stage actor Anthony Zerbe will present his nationally acclaimed performance of "It's All Done with Mirrors … an avalanche of e. e. cummings" at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the SFA campus.
