SFA faculty member to present organ recital

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music will introduce one of its newest faculty members, Jeremy Bruns, in a faculty organ recital at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19, at Christ Episcopal Church in Nacogdoches.

American Democracy Project at SFA to host panel about post-9/11 issues


NACOGDOCHES, Texas-As part of Constitution Day celebrations, the American Democracy Project at Stephen F. Austin State University will host "The U.S. Constitution in a Post-9/11 World" at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, in Dugas Liberal Arts North, Room 142.

Texas Monthly editor to speak at SFA


Paul Burka, senior executive editor of Texas Monthly, will present the Max and Georgiana Lale Lecture on Thursday, Sept. 22, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Grand Ballroom. The lecture is presented by the East Texas Historical Association and begins at 8 pm.

East Texas Historical Association to hold 2011 Fall Meeting


More than 100 historians and students will make presentations on historical subjects of interest at the annual fall meeting of the East Texas Historical Association Sept. 22-24 at the Hotel Fredonia. The association is headquartered on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus.

SFA to open 'Art of the Pacific Rim'


"Raven," a mask from the Kwakiutl tribe of the northwest Pacific coast, will be included in "Art from the Pacific Rim," which the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art will open at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, in Griffith Gallery.

'Baroque Serenade' concert scheduled at SFA


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Piney Woods Camerata, a conductorless string ensemble led by Stephen F. Austin State University music faculty Drs. Jennifer Dalmas and Evgeni Raychev, will present its fall concert, "Baroque Serenade," at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

"We will be performing music from the second half of the baroque period, including Arcangelo Corelli's Concerto Grosso No. 9 and a symphony by William Boyce, in honor of the 300th anniversary of the composer's birth," explained Raychev.

SFA Gardens Lecture Series to feature East Texas Nurseryman


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The SFA Gardens at Stephen F. Austin State University will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, in the Agriculture Building, Room 110, at 1924 Wilson Dr. Third-generation East Texas nurseryman Aubrey King will present "Great Plants for Tough Times."

Nacogdoches Naturally to host September adventure for families


The Nacogdoches Naturally Family Outdoor Adventure program will visit the Stephen F. Austin Experimental Forest on Saturday, Sept. 17. The expedition will meet at 9 a.m. at the SFA Pineywoods Native Plant Center and return to the plant center around noon. Cost per family is $5, which includes water and snacks

SFA Gardens to host plant sale at Pineywoods Native Plant Center


NACOGDOCHES - The annual Fabulous Fall Festival plant sale at Stephen F. Austin State University's Mast Arboretum will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at the SFA Pineywoods Native Plant Center, 2900 Raguet St.

A wide variety of hard-to-find, "Texas tough" plants will be available, including new introductions, Texas natives, heirlooms, perennials, and exclusive SFA introductions. Most plants are extensively trialed in the gardens before being offered to the public.
