SFA School of Music director to present 'Three Centuries of Keyboard Sonatas'

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - John Noel Roberts, director of the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music, will present a faculty recital, "Three Centuries of Keyboard Sonatas," at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

SFA reporting second-highest enrollment in university's history


NACOGDOCHES, Texas -Stephen F. Austin State University has recorded the second-highest enrollment in its history, with 12,903 students registered for classes. The university's highest enrollment, 12,954 students, was recorded in fall 2010.

Although the number of undergraduate students increased by 99, from 11,269 to 11,368, the number of graduate students decreased from 1,685 to 1,535. The number of first-time freshmen increased 10.5 percent, from 2,177 to 2,406.

SFA to celebrate opening of renovated radio and TV studios

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - A ribbon cutting for the newly renovated SFA TV2 studio and KSAU radio station at Stephen F. Austin State University will be held Thursday, Sept. 22, in the Boynton Building, 2126 Alumni Drive.

SFA psychology professor earns teaching award

SFA to stage student-directed 'The Saga of Cuchulain'


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre will present a student-directed production of W.B. Yeats' "The Saga of Cuchulain" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24. All performances are in the Downstage Theatre located on the first floor of the Griffith Fine Arts Building.

The full-length production, which is taken from a series of plays known as the Cuchulain Cycle, is actually three dance plays, explained Weslaco senior Jonathan Garcia, director.

'A Bounty of Voices' to benefit SFA choir's tour


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Tickets are now available to "A Bounty of Voices," a fund-raising dinner musicale being presented by the SFA School of Music and Friends of Music at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, in the Grand Ballroom of the Baker Pattillo Student Center. Proceeds will benefit the SFA A Cappella Choir's May tour to Austria and the Czech Republic.

SFA to open exhibition of rarely seen works by John Heliker


"Self-Portrait" by John Heliker is one of the pieces included in "John Heliker: Drawing on the New Deal 1932-1948," which the Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Art will open at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

SFA music faculty featured in benefit recital


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Faculty members of the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music will be the featured performers during the annual Pi Kappa Lambda Recital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

"This concert showcases our diverse faculty and their talent," said Deborah Dalton, SFA associate professor of voice and president of the local chapter of Pi Kappa Lambda, the national music honor society.
