SFA jazz bands' concert slated


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Swingin' Axes and Swingin' Aces jazz bands of Stephen F. Austin State University will present a joint concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 4, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

Under the direction of SFA Associate Professor Deb Scott, the Aces will open the concert with a varied program that includes Lars Halle's Mambo-style "Sonidos De La Calle"; Matt Harris' funk tune, "Whatsa Matta"; and Neal Hefti's famous swing piece, "Splanky."

SFA faculty to present all-Chopin recital


Dr. Geneva Fung, staff accompanist at SFA, will perform on all of the pieces presented during an all-Chopin faculty recital at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, in Cole Concert Hall. Other performers include faculty members Drs. Andrew Parr, piano; Jennifer Dalmas, violin; and Evgeni Raychev, cello.

SFA's 'She Stoops to Conquer' poses challenges for British cast members

SFA offers children's art classes next two Saturdays


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Area children may register for one of two age-appropriate art workshops to be offered by the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art from 10 a.m. to noon on two consecutive Saturdays, Feb. 26 and March 5, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House.

SFA reschedules screening of 'Digital Nation'


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - After having to cancel the screening of "Digital Nation" earlier this month due to weather, the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and Friends of the Visual Arts has rescheduled it for 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, at The Cole Art Center @ the Old Opera House, 329 E. Main St. in downtown Nacogdoches. Admission is free.

SFA fund-raising concert features multiple pianists, pianos

SFA faculty to present American chamber music


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Alazan Piano Trio, composed of faculty members from the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music, will present "An Evening of American Chamber Music" at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

Violinist Jennifer Dalmas, cellist Evgeni Raychev and pianist Ron Petti have not performed as a trio in a few semesters, and they are happy to be working together again, promoting works by American composers, said Dalmas.

To open the program, Dalmas and Petti will perform William Bolcom's "Second Violin Sonata."

SFA presents Texan adaptation of 'She Stoops to Conquer'

Sports anchors and NBA legends to lend expertise to SFA students


Stephen F. Austin State University will welcome ESPN sports anchor Jay Harris, New Jersey sports anchor Tony Cornish Jr. and NBA legends Robert Reid and Kevin Loder to campus for several upcoming appearances.

The SFA Office of Multicultural Affairs is teaming up with the Athletics and Campus Recreation departments to produce an event titled "A Conversation on Sports and Media" at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, in the Grand Ballroom of the Baker Pattillo Student Center. The public is invited to attend.

Garden seminar highlights tool maintenance

The SFA Gardens at Stephen F. Austin State University will host a seminar "Garden Tool Maintenance for the Mechanically Challenged" from 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 26 at the Agricultural Mechanics Shop on College Street, next to the Military Science Building.
