Registration, auditions scheduled for SFA's Music Preparatory Division


East Texas students interested in learning how to play the harp can take lessons from internationally acclaimed harpist Emily Mitchell through the Music Preparatory Division of Stephen F. Austin State University. Mitchell is one of many SFA music faculty and student teachers who offer private instructions through the Music Preparatory Division.

SFA to screen documentary on Burma


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - As part of its monthly independent film series, the SFA School of Art will present a free, one-night film screening of "They Call It Myanmar: Lifting the Curtain" at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

The 70-minute documentary, shot clandestinely over a two-year period, gives an intimate look inside the isolated country also known as Burma.

SFA regents advance plans for conservation education facility


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - An architect and construction manager at risk for a planned conservation education facility located at Stephen F. Austin State University's Pineywoods Native Plant Center were selected Tuesday by the Board of Regents.

The board selected Sutton Mitchell Beebe & Babin Architects to design the facility and J.E. Kingham Construction Company to manage the project, which is being funded entirely through private donations totaling approximately $1 million. The facility will be constructed at 2900 Raguet St.

Scholarship applications available for SFA's Music Preparatory Division


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Scholarship applications are now being accepted for music instruction through the Stephen F. Austin State University Music Preparatory Division. The partial tuition scholarships are awarded on the basis of need and can be applied to private lessons or group instruction.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - About 100 seventh- and eighth-grade students from five area school districts are attending iMAS (Investigations in Math and Science) Academy this week at Stephen F. Austin State University.
