SFA Wind Ensemble concert to showcase travel, destinations


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Stephen F. Austin State University's Wind Ensemble will present "A Musical Passport" at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the SFA campus.

The concert will showcase travel and destinations with pieces from Australia, England and America. Among the pieces to be performed, "Manhattan Roll" by Robert Beaser demonstrates the influence of the legendary New York Philharmonic conductor and composer Leonard Bernstein, according to Fred J. Allen, SFA director of bands and of the Wind Ensemble.

Challenging work goes on behind the scenes of 'The Madwoman of Chaillot'


Rowlett senior theatre major Emily Fields, associate costume designer for "The Madwoman of Chaillot," works with Angela Bacarisse, SFA professor of theatre and costume designer, in the SFA costume shop to create the costume and accessories for the play's lead character, Countess Aurelia, played by Amelia Fultz, senior theatre major from Missouri City. The play opens Tuesday, Nov. 13, in W.M.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas-In honor of Geography Awareness Week and National GIS Day, Stephen F. Austin State University will host "Discovering the World through GIS," a speaker series featuring information about Geographic Information Systems applications and careers.

SFA dance program to present "Danceworks"

Orchestra of the Pines presents 'Musical Trinity'


Gene Moon, director of orchestral studies at Stephen F. Austin State University and director of SFA's Orchestra of the Pines, Jennifer Dalmas, associate professor of violin and viola, and Evgeni Raychev, instructor of cello, will be the featured soloists when Orchestra of the Pines presents "Musical Trinity" at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

SFA Gardens' Reeves Lecture Series to feature 'Central Texas Gardener' producer


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Linda Lehmusvirta, longtime producer of the "Central Texas Gardener" PBS show in Austin, will present "Bulbs for Psycho Lighting Gardeners" at the upcoming Theresa and Les Reeves Garden Lecture hosted by the SFA Gardens.

The lecture will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, in Room 110 of the Agriculture Building located on Wilson Drive on the SFA campus.

'Chopper Blues' to be unveiled at 'Grape and Grain' Nov. 9


"The Med-Evuac" is a 38-inch by 50-inch mixed media drawing on paper featured in Charles D. Jones' "Chopper Blues," soon to be released by the Stephen F. Austin State University Press.

Book celebrates acts of heroism during Vietnam's 'Operation Indiana'


"Chopper Blues," written by Charles D. Jones, professor emeritus in the School of Art at Stephen F. Austin State University, tells the stories of survival of the young men of Company C, 1st Battalion, 7th U.S. Marine Corps who fought in Operation Indiana.

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Most of the young men in Company C, 1st Battalion, 7th U.S. Marine Corps serving in Vietnam in the spring of 1966 were only 19 or 20.

Texas Undergraduate Mathematics Conference

SFA hosted the eighth annual Texas Undergraduate Mathematics Conference in late October. More than 100 students and approximately 40 faculty members from across the state participated in the two-day event. Students attended talks, presented their own research discoveries and competed in mathematical competitions.
