NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts will offer a number of holiday-related performances and events that are sure to put anyone in the spirit of the season.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Dr. Adam Peck, dean of student affairs at Stephen F. Austin State University, has been elected to serve as vice president for education and professional development for the Texas Association of College and University Student Personnel Administrators.

SFA's Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band plan Nov. 27 concerts


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music's Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, in W.M. Turner Auditorium. The concert is a featured performance of the School of Music's Concert Series.

The Symphonic Band will open the program with "The Hounds of Spring" concert overture by Alfred Reed, said Tamey Anglley, assistant director of bands and the Symphonic Band's director.

Post-show responses scheduled following SFA theatre production


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre will host post-show informal discussions following the Thursday and Friday, Nov. 15 and 16, performances of "The Madwoman of Chaillot."

SFA School of Theatre to stage reading of new play 'Spark'


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - As part of a nationwide, month-long script reading program presented by the New York-based company No Passport, the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre will present a special staged reading of the new play "Spark," written by OBIE-Award winning playwright Caridad Svich. The reading will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26, in the Downstage Theatre on the SFA Campus. Admission is free.

SFA Gardens to host weekend events celebrating birds


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University Pineywoods Native Plant Center will offer two birding programs the weekend of Nov. 16-17.

Historic train depot to open exhibit on the railroads of Nacogdoches County


NACOGDOCHES, Texas-The Center for Regional Heritage Research at Stephen F. Austin State University will host an opening for the exhibit "The Railroads of Nacogdoches County," at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 16, at the Nacogdoches Historic Depot, 101 Old Tyler Rd.

Cole Art Center extends hours for Thanksgiving weekend


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Hours for the Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches have been extended during the Thanksgiving weekend, according to John Handley, director of galleries for Stephen F. Austin State University.

The Cole Art Center, located at 329 E. Main St., will be open regular hours on Friday, Nov. 23, and Saturday, Nov. 24. The center is open each week from 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

Dr. Deer lives here: 'Father of modern deer management' calls SFA home


Dr. James Kroll directs SFA's Institute for White-tailed Deer Management and Research in the Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture and is a renowned expert on America's favorite big-game animal.

On a recent walk through a lush East Texas forest, Dr. James Kroll cautiously approached a white-tailed deer food plot surrounded by an electric fence. Glancing over to his companions, he warned, "Steer clear of the wires. That's 8,000 volts.

Congressional Art Competition exhibition to open in Griffith Gallery


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. The competition provides an opportunity for members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents.

This year, the artwork submitted for the competition by students living within U.S. Rep. Louie Gohmert's congressional district will be displayed in Griffth Gallery on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University.
