SFA's Swingin' Axes and Swingin' Aces performing concert on Oct. 11


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music will present its jazz bands, the Swingin' Axes and the Swingin' Aces, in concert at 7:30 p.m Friday, Oct. 11, in Cole Concert Hall in the Wright Music Building on the SFA campus.

If you've been within earshot of Homer Bryce Stadium on a Saturday afternoon in the fall, you've probably heard it - the kaboom of cannon fire punctuating the spirited strains of the SFA Fight Song. The source of the blasts is Ol' Cotton, a World War II-era 75-mm mountain howitzer that is positioned in the south end zone for each home game and fired every time SFA scores.

SFA School of Art to screen Hoffman-directed "Quartet"


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and Friends of the Visual Arts will present a free, one-night screening of "Quartet" at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

The Dustin Hoffman-directed comedy stars Maggie Smith, Billy Connolly, Michael Gambon and Pauline Collins as aging British opera stars who come together annually for a reunion concert. The script was written by Ronald Harwood.
