SFA Gardens Lecture Series to feature expert on frogs, snakes, turtles
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - SFA Gardens will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, in Room 110 of the Agriculture Building on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University.
Dr. Matthew Kwiatkowski, SFA professor of biology, will present "Critters that Slither and Hop in Your Garden: The Reptiles and Amphibians of East Texas."
University Series to present Ailey II on SFA's Turner stage
NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts will present Ailey II at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the SFA campus as part of its 2013-2014 University Series, "Live Out Loud."
SFA Wind Ensemble to present 'Faculty Showcase'
NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Fred J. Allen, will present "Faculty Showcase" at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the SFA campus.
Featured performers will be Debbie Berry and Gary Wurtz, both members of the faculty in the SFA School of Music.
Noted flautist McCuiston to perform recital, conduct seminar at SFA
NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music and the Cole Performing Arts Series will present Angela McCuiston performing a guest flute recital at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.
McCuiston will perform works by Johann Sebastian Bach, Astor Piazzolla and Ian Clarke, among others.
SFA Music Prep Division hosts All-Region Choir Camp
NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The SFA Music Preparatory Division, a divisional school of the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music, recently sponsored a Region 21 Middle School All-Region Choir Camp in the Tom and Peggy Wright Music Building on the SFA campus.
Nearly 90 middle school students from across East Texas attended the event to receive assistance in learning their music in preparation for All-Region competition.
SFA's 'Messiah' to feature talented student, faculty voices
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Student and faculty voices will be featured when the A Cappella Choir at Stephen F. Austin State University presents a full performance of G.F. Handel's great oratorio, "Messiah," at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 8, in Cole Concert Hall in the Wright Music Building on the SFA campus.
Dr. Tim King, director of choral activities in the SFA School of Music, will conduct Handel's best-known work. The performance will showcase many of King's colleagues as soloists.
SFA elementary education students travel back in time through annual Pioneer Days
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Whispers of "This is the coolest place ever" and "This is the best day" drift through the 1837 Millard-Lee House at Millard's Crossing Historic Village in Nacogdoches as dozens of third-grade students approach a frozen figure in the living wax museum. As a student rings the bell, Stephen F. Austin State University elementary education major Ciara Johnson of Houston springs to life as Bessie Coleman, the first African-American female aviator.
Danceworks: Deviation production to feature SFA dance program, Repertory Dance Company
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University's dance program and Repertory Dance Company will showcase senior choreographic works and company pieces during its production of Danceworks: Deviation, which premieres at 7 p.m. April 20 in the Norton H.P.E. Complex, Room 201, on the university's campus.
A second showing is scheduled for 7 p.m. April 21 with a final performance set for 3 p.m. April 22.
Renowned percussionist Brian Zator to perform at SFA
NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Internationally renowned percussionist Brian Zator will perform a guest recital at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, in Cole Concert Hall as part of the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music's Cole Performing Arts Series.
