SFA's College of Sciences and Mathematics to host 96th annual mathematics conference
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Dovetailing on its final day with Stephen F. Austin State University's Showcase Saturday open-house event, the College of Sciences and Mathematics will host the 96th annual Mathematical Association of America - Texas Section conference on the campus this spring.
The annual meeting of MAA will take place Thursday, March 31, through Saturday, April 2. Faculty and staff members, students and the community, particularly K-12 teachers, are encouraged to attend.

Bassoonist Pool to perform recital at SFA
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present bassoonist Scott Pool in a guest recital at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 30, in Cole Concert Hall in the Wright Music Building on the SFA campus.
Pool's program, "The Romantic Bassoon," will feature music from 19th century Romanticism, either from the era or in its spirit, Pool said.
SFA cellist Raychev to perform recital
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present Dr. Evgeni Raychev in a faculty recital at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.
Titled "Cello Airs," Raychev's concert will feature cello favorites diversified with some violin transcriptions.
Stephen F. Austin State University students to study abroad in China
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Several Stephen F. Austin State University students enrolled in the Department of Elementary Education and an international business student will study abroad for 18 days in Beijing and Nanjing, China, this May and June. Drs. Wynter Chauvin and Tingting Xu, SFA elementary education faculty members, are coordinating the trip and courses.
SFA kinesiology and health science students attend Texas American College of Sports Medicine Conference
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University students in the Department of Kinesiology and Health Science recently attended the Texas American College of Sports Medicine Conference.
During the event, more than 50 SFA students were introduced to field experts from around the country who presented at the two-day conference. Presentation topics ranged from thermoregulation and hypo-hydration to current concussive issues and skeletal muscle plasticity in astronauts.
SFA sciences and mathematics undergraduate students present research at state and national conventions
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Six undergraduate students in Stephen F. Austin State University's College of Sciences and Mathematics presented research at the 119th Texas Academy of Science this month, and two students are slated to speak at a national convention in April.
SFA's visual impairment and orientation and mobility program hosts Easter party for area children
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University's visual impairment and orientation and mobility program recently partnered with the SFA Braille and Cane Club and the Texas Division for Blind Services to host an Easter party for area children.
SFA students volunteered during the event to help children create craft projects and engage in activities. There also was an egg hunt on the SFA campus with beeping eggs, and children met the Easter bunny and enjoyed petting bunnies and a rooster.
