Second Lumberjack Psychology Conference to be held Monday at SFA


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Successful in its first year, the second Lumberjack Psychology Conference will be held Monday, April 4, aimed at showcasing undergraduate and graduate research and preparing students for the upcoming Southwestern Psychology Association conference.

Three SFA students received awards from the Psi Chi National Honor Society following last year's SWPA conference in Kansas.

SFA elementary education students participating in Project Confianza


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University students enrolled in the James I. Perkins College of Education are putting their skills to the test by participating in Project Confianza.

A collaborative effort between SFA's James I. Perkins College of Education and the Lufkin and Nacogdoches Independent School Districts, Project Confianza aims to improve the education of pre- and in-service teachers to help them work effectively with English Language Learners.

SFA Regents Professor, Dr. Ray Darville, to present lecture


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Dr. Ray Darville, professor of sociology at Stephen F. Austin State University, will present "The Seventh Objective: Live a Natural Life" at the upcoming Regents Lecture.

Darville, the 2015-16 Regents Professor, will deliver the address at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, in the Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus. Refreshments will be served, and there is no admission charge. The Phi Eta Sigma induction ceremony will follow the lecture.

Celebrated photographer Morell to serve as Texas National juror


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Distinguished photographer Abelardo Morell will serve as juror for the 22nd Texas National, Stephen F. Austin State University's acclaimed art competition and exhibition, which opens April 9 and runs through June 11 in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

Texas National features an assortment of art, including photography, painting, sculpture and mixed media, according to John Handley, director of SFA galleries. This year's exhibition includes 93 pieces of art by 98 different artists from 29 states.

Heifner to conduct beginner workshop in playwriting

NACOGDOCHES, Texas -The Beta Phi cast of Alpha Psi Omega National Theatre Honor Society at Stephen F. Austin State University will host a playwriting workshop with SFA's playwright-in-residence, Jack Heifner.

SFA to present student-directed 'The Lover'


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre will present the student-directed play "The Lover" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 8, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 9, in the Downstage Theatre on the SFA campus.

Directed by senior theatre major Robert Malbrough of Houston, "The Lover," a one-act play by Nobel Prize-winning English playwright Harold Pinter, is a comedy in which a married couple creates sexual games to liven up their relationship.

SFA to exhibit unique Barnett artwork


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Art will present an exhibition of the works of Vera Barnett March 30 through May 6 in Griffith Gallery on the SFA campus and in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

The exhibition will feature oil paintings, as well as examples of the artist's plastic models used to make her paintings, according to John Handley, director of galleries at SFA, who first saw Barnett's work while he was visiting Valley House Sculpture Garden and Gallery in Dallas.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - As spring begins and warm, sunny weather beckons campers to explore the great outdoors, patrons of Arkansas' most-visited state park, Crater of Diamonds, may notice a few changes based upon recommendations made by students enrolled in the Stephen F. Austin State University course Management of Outdoor Recreation Areas.
