SFA's Percussion Ensemble to present program of varied works


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Percussion Ensemble at Stephen F. Austin State University will perform a concert of diverse and intriguing works at 6 p.m. Monday, April 10, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

The program will feature new and standard compositions for small chamber groups and large ensemble by Daniel Levitan, Rudiger Pawassar, Steven Snowden, Nigel Westlake and Edgard Varèse, according to Dr. Brad Meyer, director of percussion studies in the SFA School of Music.

SFA Gardens education coordinator recognized for service


Elyce Rodewald, education coordinator at SFA Gardens, was one of six local women honored for their service to the community during the American Association of University Women's 2017 Woman of the Year Awards Banquet. SFA business students learn from industry professionals during annual College to Career Conference


Business executives spoke with Stephen F. Austin State University Rusche College of Business students during the college's fourth annual College to Career Conference. During the "Are you 1 in 118?" panel session, executives discussed the importance of an active education, business experience, multitasking and more.

SFA's Department of English and Creative Writing to host creator of Dothraki for TV's Game of Thrones


Stephen F. Austin State University's Department of English and Creative writing will host David J. Peterson, creator of the Dothraki language featured in HBO's "Game of Thrones," at 6:30 p.m. tonight in Dugas Liberal Arts North, Room 142 on the SFA campus.

'The Merry Wives of Windsor' opera opens Thursday at SFA


Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music's 2017 Opera Theater, Otto Nicolai's "The Merry Wives of Windsor," opens for a three-night run at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 30, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the SFA campus. SFA's College of Sciences and Mathematics to host third annual Women in STEM Luncheon and Style Show


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University's College of Sciences and Mathematics will present its third annual Women in STEM Luncheon and Style Show at noon Tuesday, April 4, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Grand Ballroom. Doors open at 11:30 a.m.

The luncheon is an effort to raise funds to create scholarships for women who are majoring in science, technology, engineering and mathematics disciplines at SFA.

SFA's Department of History to host Phi Alpha Theta regional conference


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University's Department of History will host Phi Alpha Theta's regional conference for Northeast Texas from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 1, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center. The conference is part of Phi Alpha Theta's national drive to provide venues for graduate and undergraduate students to present their research in a professional environment.

SFA's Office of Multicultural Affairs to kick off Diversity Week April 3


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University's Office of Multicultural Affairs will kick off its annual Diversity Week Monday, April 3. The week will feature social and educational programs demonstrating the value of diversity and multiculturalism and creating meaningful dialogue in the SFA community.

The Diversity Week kickoff event will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Plaza and will feature a diversity canvas, where students are encouraged to help paint a mural showcasing SFA's diversity.

SFA's Department of History to host lecture featuring LGBT activists


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University's Department of History will present a public lecture featuring Dr. Eric Walther and Raymond "Ray" Hill at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 30, in Liberal Arts North, Room 102. The lecture is titled "LGBT History: Harvey Milk, Houston Gay Liberation and New Directions in the Movement."

The lecture will cover the historical fight for LGBT equality in the United States with an emphasis on the movement in Texas.

Heifner to conduct beginner workshop in playwriting


Jack Heifner, SFA's playwright-in-residence, will conduct a playwriting workshop from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 9, in Room 303 of the Griffith Fine Arts Building on the SFA campus.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas -The Beta Phi cast of Alpha Psi Omega National Theatre Honor Society at Stephen F. Austin State University will host a playwriting workshop with SFA's playwright-in-residence, Jack Heifner.
