NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Within days of stepping into the director of Auxiliary Services role at Stephen F. Austin State University on Aug. 19, Carrie Charley found herself at community assistant training. This training helps prepare SFA student advisors to assist residents living in on-campus halls.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Spending less than $10 on the ingredients for a meal to feed four people, choosing the right beverages to avoid added sugar, preparing meals using general frameworks instead of recipes — these are some of the lessons the 23 participants in the six-week Cooking Matters program learned from Stephen F. Austin State University School of Human Sciences students.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — A newly bestowed grant from the Corporation of National and Community Service will help Stephen F. Austin State University’s Office of Multicultural Affairs expand outreach initiatives for its upcoming 2020 MLK Day of Service.

The CNCS is a federal agency charged with leading service and volunteering efforts across the U.S. It was tasked with serving as lead national organizer for the federally sanctioned day of service, which first began in 1983.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Students from Stephen F. Austin State University’s Department of Mass Communication, School of Art, and Department of Management and Marketing recently took part in a competition for the American Advertising Federation in Houston.

Approximately 40 students from SFA took part in the competition, joining groups from the University of Texas, Texas A&M University, the University of Houston and others to form 10 teams.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — As a kindergartener at an elementary school in southeast Houston, Dr. Michara Delaney-Fields fell in love with the world of education and aspired to hold an important position within it one day.

Her dream has since come true several times over, most recently when she was selected to serve as Stephen F. Austin State University’s new assistant dean of the Office of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Mariachi Los Leñadores, a student-run organization and ensemble at Stephen F. Austin State University, will present “Una Noche De Serenatas” at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11, in the Music Recital Hall in Wright Music Building on the SFA campus.

“One of the traditions in the Mexican culture is to serenade a loved one with a mariachi,” said Dr. J.D. Salas, associate professor of tuba in the SFA School of Music. “This recital will serve as a serenade to the SFA and Nacogdoches communities following the group’s fall semester of rehearsals and performances.”

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s SFA Gardens will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Dec. 12 in the Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, located at 2900 Raguet St.

Dr. David Creech, professor emeritus and SFA Gardens director, will present “Reconnaissance in the Pursuit of Knowledge is Seldom Wasted: New Plants for a 21st-Century East Texas.”
