NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Saxophonist Don-Paul Kahl will present the guest recital “States of Being” at 6 p.m. Monday, March 18, in Cole Concert Hall, Wright Music Building, on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University.
“Each concert work explores, on its own, a different facet of being – from the poetic to the hidden monster within, from delicate moments of joy to the darkest depths of grief,” Kahl states. “In this way, the human experience is given space to be what it is without limits. It is only then that we closer understand what it is to be human.”
Hicks selected as keynote speaker at UNT symposium
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Candace Hicks, associate professor of art in the School of Art at Stephen F. Austin State University, will be the keynote speaker at “From Artists’ Books to Zines” symposium Saturday, March 23, at the University of North Texas’ Willis Library in Denton.
SFA Department of Mass Communication, Nacogdoches County Chamber of Commerce partner for community-focused television program
NACOGDCOCHES, Texas –– Students from Stephen F. Austin State University’s Department of Mass Communication collaborated with the Nacogdoches Chamber of Commerce to produce a new television program, “We Are Nacogdoches,” on the department-run local television station SFA-TV2.
Hosted by Kelly Augustine, the chamber’s chief executive officer, the program’s purpose is to highlight people, organizations and issues that shape Nacogdoches, the town SFA has called home for its century of existence.

SFA to host district, regional UIL One-Act Play contests
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The School of Theatre and Dance at Stephen F. Austin State University will host the University Interscholastic League 3A District 21 One-Act Play Contest Friday, March 8, in the Griffith Fine Arts Building on the university campus.
Performances will begin at 10 a.m. in the Flex Theatre and will continue throughout the day. Admission is free to watch the student performances.
Children invited to SFA Gardens’ Little Princess Tea Party
NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Princesses from across East Texas are invited to don their best ball gown and sip tea with friends during the SFA Gardens' Little Princess Tea Party slated for April 13 in the Stephen F. Austin State University Ruby M. Mize Azalea Garden.
Kindness is the theme for this year’s event, and two sessions will be offered — the first at 10 a.m. and the second at 1 p.m.
"The azalea garden creates a magical setting for young princesses and fairies to celebrate the natural beauty of East Texas,” said Kay Jenkins, SFA Gardens educational programs coordinator.

Loree McCary named SFA interim director of athletics
NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Gina Oglesbee, Stephen F. Austin State University interim president, has named Loree McCary interim director of athletics effective March 11, the university announced Monday.
“Loree’s extensive experience and proven leadership within SFA Athletics ideally position her to lead during this vital transition,” Oglesbee said in an email to campus Monday. “We eagerly anticipate Loree's interim leadership, focusing on continuing our legacy of excellence and community spirit within our athletic programs.”
Educators invited to share expertise at SFA’s Lifelong Learning Conference
NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The annual Lifelong Learning Conference, hosted through Stephen F. Austin State University’s Department of Education Studies, is accepting proposals through March 17 and will be held June 28 in SFA’s Janice A. Pattillo Early Childhood Research Center.
This collaborative platform encourages educators to share innovative teaching practices and emerging research in a variety of presentation styles emphasizing this year’s theme of “Inspire! Create! Collaborate!”
