NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Stephen F. Austin State University’s Stone Fort Museum will host the Interior East Texas event to kick off the Nacogdoches Public Library’s Big Read program. The event will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. Jan. 20 at the museum on SFA’s campus.
SFA Gardens to host plant propagation workshop
NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s SFA Gardens will host a plant propagation workshop from 9 a.m. to noon Jan. 27 in the Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center on campus.
During the workshop, Dr. Andrew King, SFA Gardens assistant director, will discuss propagation tips and tricks and invite participants to try their hand at plant propagation.

SFA banking program helps students launch careers before graduating
NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Sophie Clakley of Carthage, a senior banking major in Stephen F. Austin State University’s Rusche College of Business, was attending the Independent Bankers Association of Texas annual convention in September 2022 when she struck up a conversation with her future boss.
C Welch, a certified fraud examiner and assistant deputy comptroller for midsize and community banks with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency in Longview, was impressed with Clakley and offered her a financial internship at the OCC beginning in January 2023.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Cynthia Trapanese, a senior lecturer in the humane education program at Antioch University, will present “Teaching to be kind: Humane Education in the Classroom” for Stephen F. Austin State University’s Montgomery Professorship for Human Education Speaker Series at 6 p.m. Feb. 20 in the Janice A. Pattillo Early Childhood Research Center.
