NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s STEM Research and Learning Center supported the development of 13 high school students to advance to the Texas Science and Engineering Fair, with hopes of advancing to the International Science and Engineering Fair in Los Angeles.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s longstanding student-run radio station — now aptly named “Axe ’Em Radio” on 90.1 FM and operated by the Department of Mass Communication — has changed its call sign from the nearly half-century-old KSAU-FM to KAXM-FM.

The change to the call sign, which identifies a radio station, was approved by the Federal Communication Commission and put into effect March 1.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — In a special called meeting March 18, The University of Texas System Board of Regents unanimously approved Neal Weaver, PhD, as the new president of Stephen F. Austin State University. Weaver, who has served as president of Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) since 2017, will officially begin his new appointment in mid-May.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Intrepid Winds of the 323rd Army Band will perform a concert and conduct master classes with students when the ensemble visits the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University Monday, March 25. 

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Dr. Jenna Sehmann, assistant professor of oboe and music history at Stephen F. Austin State University, will present the concert “Postcards from America” at 6 p.m. Sunday, March 24, in Cole Concert Hall, Wright Music Building, on the SFA campus.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The A Cappella Choir at Stephen F. Austin State University will present “Light of a Clear Blue Morning,” an eclectic program of secular, sacred and popular music, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 23, in Cole Concert Hall, Wright Music Building, on the SFA campus.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Dr. Jamie Vilseck, percussion faculty at Stephen F. Austin State University, will present a concert featuring Joseph Schwantner’s landmark work “Velocities” at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 21, in Cole Concert Hall, Wright Music Building, on the SFA campus.

Vilseck’s repertoire for this concert includes “challenging literature covering a breadth of percussion instruments,” he said.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University announces that Dr. Brittney L. Falahola, associate professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, has been awarded a grant by the National Science Foundation.

The grant supported the development of educational workshops at the eighth annual Gulf States Math Alliance Conference. Faculty workshops focused on the advancement of educational and professional development in mathematical sciences.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s School of Social Work kicked off Social Work Month Wednesday with a proclamation event to begin a number of events the school will host to honor the social work profession. 

Nacogdoches County Commissioner Robin Dawley delivered the proclamation to the School of Social Work’s faculty members, field instructors, students and others in attendance.
