SFA Gardens October lecture series to offer kiwifruit presentation from AgriLife Extension specialist


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University's SFA Gardens will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Oct. 14 in the Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, located at 2900 Raguet St.

Dr. Timothy P. Hartmann, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Specialist from College Station, will present "All You Ever Wanted to Know About Growing Kiwifruit."

SFA’s Office of Multicultural Affairs to host Noche de Gala


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s Office of Multicultural Affairs is hosting Noche de Gala, an annual Latinx and Hispanic Heritage Month celebration, at 6 p.m. Sept. 29 at the Baker Pattillo Student Center Plaza. The event honors the Latinx and Hispanic cultures through educational activities, performances, cultural cuisines and music.

“We invite students, staff, faculty and community to come learn, network and join us in the celebration,” said Veronica Beavers, OMA director. 

SFA Symphony Orchestra to perform works by Copland, Marquez, Wolf-Ferrari


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Symphony Orchestra at Stephen F. Austin State University will perform works by Arturo Marquez, Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari and Aaron Copland on its first concert of the fall semester at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

SFA to recognize outstanding alumni at awards banquet, Sept. 17


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The Stephen F. Austin State University Alumni Association will honor five alumni during its awards banquet beginning at 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 17, at The Fredonia Hotel in Nacogdoches.

The SFA Alumni Awards honor individuals who have made outstanding contributions to their professions and the community and who advance the goals and values of SFA.

SFA music faculty to present Pi Kappa Lambda scholarship concert


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Faculty members of the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music will be the featured performers during the annual Pi Kappa Lambda Music Faculty Showcase at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 16, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

The concert highlights the talents of the diverse School of Music performing faculty, according to Dr. Jamie Weaver, associate professor of music history at SFA and president of Pi Kappa Lambda honors society. Proceeds from the concert fund scholarships for deserving SFA music majors selected by the honors society.

SFA art professor to participate in prestigious panel discussion


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Piero Fenci, professor of art at Stephen F. Austin State University, is among the artists selected to participate in a free, virtual panel discussion to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft.

The panel brings together a group of locally and nationally distinguished artists and thinkers to reflect on how HCCC has grown over the past 20 years and what the future of craft as a field looks like.

SFA’s Office of Multicultural Affairs to host first Brave Space of fall semester


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s Office of Multicultural Affairs will host its first Brave Space Series of the semester at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 16, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Multimedia Room.

The program, “Through the Looking Glass,” will discuss ways to view situations and issues through individual perspectives.
