SFA Gardens gears up for spring plant sale


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s SFA Gardens will host its annual Garden Gala Day Plant Sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 9 and 10 at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, located at 2900 Raguet St.

Mark Wilson, Louisiana extension agent, to be SFA Gardens’ January lecture series speaker


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s SFA Gardens will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, in the Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, located at 2900 Raguet St.

Mark Wilson, assistant extension agent of horticulture for the Louisiana State University AgCenter, will present “Garden Adventures in the Land of Crawfish and Creole.”

SFA’s first Montgomery Professorship presentation scheduled for Jan. 27 with Dr. Chitra Golestani


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Dr. Chitra Golestani, associate director of the Wilmette Institute, will present “Having Skin in the Game: Humane Education and Social Justice” at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, via Zoom. 

The Wilmette Institute, located in Evanston, Illinois, is an educational institution that draws upon the principles of the Baháʼí faith to inspire sustained social change for the common good. It is a relatively new religion that teaches the essential worth of all religions and the unity of all people.

SFA Gardens to host gardening basics workshop


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s SFA Gardens will host a Gardening 101 workshop to explore the basic steps to successful landscapes in East Texas. 

The event will run from 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 12 in the Brundrett Conservation Education Building, Room 101, at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, located at 2900 Raguet St. 

SFA School of Theatre’s presentation of ‘Bootycandy’ to be showcased at festival


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre’s production of “Bootycandy” has been selected by the Region 6 Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival for inclusion at its upcoming festival to be held virtually Feb. 24 through 27.

SFA’s presentation of Robert O’Hara’s play “Bootycandy” is one of only six plays selected from throughout a five-state area to be presented at the festival.

SFA announces Rockwall, Rockwall-Heath as Distinguished High School Program partners


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — On Tuesday, Stephen F. Austin State University announced its naming of Rockwall and Rockwall-Heath high schools as partner schools chosen for inclusion in the university’s Distinguished High School Program.

This partnership means that top-ranking graduates from the high schools will be automatically eligible for scholarships worth up to $20,000. Inclusion in the program also means all Rockwall and Rockwall-Heath students may waive the $50 application fee, and seniors ranking in the top 30% of their class are guaranteed admission to SFA.
