About SFA's Bands

About

Founded in 1926, SFA's bands consist of six ensembles and over four hundred students, offering numerous performance opportunities while fostering growth of our Lumberjack musicians.

Members of SFA's bands also participate in several other of the performance ensembles within the School of Music.

Concert ensembles

  • University Band

These ensembles are active throughout the year, with the exception of the University Band, which only meets in the spring. These ensembles welcome members with various majors, interests and playing abilities.

Each year, our concert ensembles offer a total of nearly 20 performances — most of which are held in Turner Auditorium or Cole Concert Hall.

Athletic bands

It is no secret that SFA is proud of the visibility of our athletic bands throughout Texas and the rest of the country. The Lumberjack Marching Band performs for thousands of fans and alumni each year, excelling at both corps and military-style marching.

The "Roarin' Buzzsaws" men's and women's basketball bands perform at nearly every home basketball game for the Lumberjack and Ladyjack basketball teams, giving you great seats to support our team to the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament.

Celebrating nearly 100 years of supporting Lumberjack football, the 300+ member Lumberjack Marching Band takes the stadium by storm in front of thousands of cheering fans each year regionally, nationally and internationally.

  • 2015 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City
  • 2018 St. Patrick's Day Parade in Dublin, Ireland
