Laws, Policies and Standards

Electronic information resource, or EIR, accessibility and the review of EIR purchases are required by the laws, policies and standards listed below.

The electronic accessibility coordinator refers to these governing documents and other informational resources for compliance and program updates.

OGC Bulletin 2006-1: UT System Policy UTS 150 and this OGC Bulletin 2006-1 constitute the UT System administration’s and each UT institution’s accessibility policy applicable to EIRs procured by the UT System administration and UT institutions, as required by the Texas Department of Information Resources Accessibility rules.
OGC Bulletin 2009-1: UT System Policy UTS 150 and this OGC Bulletin 2009-1 constitute the UT System administration’s and each UT institution’s accessibility policy applicable to EIRs developed by the UT System Administration and UT institutions, as required by the Texas DIR Accessibility rules.

1 TAC 206 sets state web accessibility standards that are aligned with federal regulations in Section 508.
1 TAC 213 sets state standards for procurement, development, or usage of EIR aligned with federal regulations in Section 508.
TGC 2054.451 sets the requirement to provide employees and members of the public access to and use of EIRs.

Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 requires federal agencies to make their electronic and information technology accessible to people with disabilities.
Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act requires state and local governments to give people with disabilities an equal opportunity to benefit from all of their programs, services and activities.
