Check out our Electronic Accessibility Knowledge Base, which includes articles, guides, and other information related to electronic information resources, or EIRs.
What is an EIR?
Electronic information resource
TAC 213 defines an EIR as a product that "includes information technology and any equipment or interconnected system or subsystem of equipment used to create, convert, duplicate, store, or deliver data or information." These products include:
- software applications and operating systems
- telecommunication products
- video and multimedia products
- self-contained closed products
- and desktop and portable computers.
What is considered software?
Software, often referred to as "computer programs," can include subscriptions that require a monthly payment. Today's software purchases are accessed through a web browser (such as Google Chrome or Safari) or downloaded from a web browser and installed on an electronic device.
Why does a new ticket need to be submitted every year?
Software (and technology as a whole) must continually change and be upgraded to meet user needs. Evidence of this can be seen in the software update notices frequently issued by manufacturers. The annual review of software and hardware purchased on campus helps support SFA's commitment to ensuring that our EIRs are accessible to all users.
