The University of Texas System developed the Coordinated Admission Program to expand the admission options available to students interested in enrolling at The University of Texas at Austin, the system's flagship university.

In general, CAP makes it possible for first-year students who have applied to UT Austin but were not accepted to begin their studies at another UT System university. After completing CAP requirements during their first year, students may then transfer to UT Austin to complete their undergraduate studies. However, many students opt to stay at their chosen UT System institution to complete their degree. SFA is ready to offer you the same bright future our more than 100,000 alumni experience!

Enrollment requirement

Students offered participation in CAP are eligible to enroll at SFA if they ranked in the top 50% of their high school graduating class. View details on the CAP at UT Austin webpage.

If you are offered and decide to participate in CAP at SFA, you don't have to apply for admission to SFA. Simply complete the CAP agreement to let us know that you want to participate.

Scholarships

You will be automatically considered for the Academic Excellence scholarship if you enroll at SFA as a full-time student and your academic credentials meet the scholarship's eligibility requirements.

Your first year at SFA

You may choose to start in the summer or fall and must complete 30 hours from an approved course list during your first year at SFA. Contact your CAP at SFA academic advisor to map out your course sequence.

Perks of being a Lumberjack

Affordability

Nacogdoches, the city SFA calls home, was ranked the sixth most affordable college town in the U.S., according to a 2023 report by WalletHub. The ranking considered cost of living as well as the cost of higher education.

Engagement and personal growth

At SFA, we develop the whole person, and becoming involved on campus is a huge part of that. More than 200 clubs and orgs means ample opportunity to grow your interests and find your niche. You can volunteer in one of our huge annual service days, develop leadership and public speaking skills as an Orientation leader or Jack Walker, or just find a community with some of your same hobbies.

Safe and convenient location

Just two hours from Houston and three hours from Dallas, Nacogdoches is SFA's home, and its 30,000 citizens take care of each other. That extends to our on-campus safety — the University of Texas System Police Department at SFA provides around-the-clock support for students, including 24/7 patrol, emergency call boxes across campus, and car unlocking assistance, among many other services.

Supportive environment

Our 15:1 student-to-faculty ratio helps students and instructors build relationships that assist students academically and with future career decisions. And our Lumberjack Wellness Network offers students an A-to-Z list of resources based on key concerns so they can get help even if they aren't sure what's wrong.

Career preparation

Don't know what you want to major in yet? Don't worry. SFA's Center for Career and Professional Development has a plan for you from determining your strengths and interests to finding the courses you need for your future career to helping you get that dream job.

A CCPD survey of May 2023 graduates shows nearly 95% reported positive career outcomes within six months of graduation. SFA's reported career outcome rate within six months of graduation was 6% higher than the 2022 national average and 10% higher than the 2022 southwest U.S. average.

Beautiful campus

Our campus has always been known for its beauty.  In the spring, the park-like grounds come alive with colorful tulips, azaleas and dogwoods. The fall is ablaze with all the deep colors of autumn. You can enjoy these on SFA's 68 acres of hike and bike trails.

Make SFA your CAP selection

We'd love to have you here. First, you must meet the CAP at SFA enrollment requirement listed above. Then, follow these next steps.

  1. Select SFA as part of your CAP agreement when SFA shows up as a CAP option on your UT Austin MyStatus page.
  2. Pay the $50 application processing fee. See if you qualify for an application fee waiver.
