Getting involved

At SFA, our mathematics and statistics students have opportunities to build upon the mathematics they are learning in the classroom. In addition to participating in real-world research projects, Lumberjacks can join clubs and organizations that offer unique opportunities to learn, network and have fun with other majors who share similar interests.

For more information about clubs and organizations, you can contact your faculty advisor to find the best fit for your interests.

Mathematical Association of America

Lumberjacks can join the SFA chapter of the Mathematical Association of America, which offers members a wide range of year-round activities, including:

  • Organizing and hosting a Calculus Bowl at state-level meetings
  • Attending guest lectures, conferences and colloquia
  • Planning movie nights, game nights and other social activities
  • Participating in monthly mathematics competitions

For more information about the SFA chapter, contact the faculty advisor, Dr. Keith Hubbard at 936.468.1533 or email hubbardke@sfasu.edu.

Honor societies

SFA is home to the Texas Delta Chapter of Pi Mu Epsilon, a national honorary mathematics society. Members attend interesting mathematics-related lectures, organize banquets and parties, and participate in fun campus-wide events like homecoming.
