Director of Athletics
What drew you to the higher education world?
Young people – the opportunity to be in a position that allows me to help set the stage for young people to have success in athletics and academics is a driving force for me. Higher education solves problems, creates opportunities and can be a dynamic experience for everyone involved. To be able to play a part in a grander mission inside the space of college athletics, where we can reaffirm the teachings of faculty via competition and team dynamics, is truly unique to the United States and provides benefits far beyond the simple metric of won-loss records.
What do you enjoy most about your role at SFA?
The tremendous pride in the institution and in East Texas that our students, faculty, staff and alumni display is what makes SFA special. SFA is iconic. Nacogdoches is iconic. Our people are iconic. I enjoy working together with all of our stakeholders to celebrate and elevate our university. It’s a very special place because of the people and the pride we all have in SFA.
What do you hope students gain from SFA?
I hope students gain a strong foundation for which they can have a “life well-lived.” I hope they are thankful for their time at SFA, and that they know we are thankful that they chose SFA. I hope they are grateful for the effort that their faculty, coaches and supporters poured into them so they could grow and flourish. I hope they graduate with a deep appreciation for their experience, and that they stay connected and engaged with SFA for the course of their lives.
What are you passionate about outside of your role at SFA?
Beyond my family and our faith, I find great joy and relaxation in music, food, the outdoors and Premier League soccer. I’ve seen more than 100 concerts live – my favorite band is U2. I love to cook for family and friends, hike or go for a camping trip and I’m up early on Saturdays to catch as many Manchester City matches as I can.
