Through HOP policy 06-105, SFA complies with the Federal Trade Commission's Red Flags Rule, which requires many businesses and organizations to implement a written Identity Theft Prevention Program designed to detect the warning signs – or red flags – of identity theft in day-to-day operations.
Who is required to complete this training?
SFA's Red Flag training must be taken by all university staff members, officials and contractors for whom it is conceivable or reasonable that during their course of work they may be exposed to sensitive information or gain access to information that may constitute a risk to the university or its customers.
Examples include:
- confidential information
- covered accounts
- identifiable personal information
It is the department head's responsibility to ensure sensitive information is not accessed by any individual who has not completed the Red Flag training.
