SFA named one of top rural serving universities in the nation


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University has been named the No. 1 Texas university of its size as a rural-serving institution.

The Alliance for Research on Regional Colleges awarded the designation to SFA, also placing it No. 11 nationally.

SFA School of Theatre to present student-directed ‘She Kills Monsters’


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre will present the student-directed full-length play “She Kills Monsters” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 25, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 26, in Regents Suite A in the Baker Pattillo Student Center on the SFA campus.

SFA construction management program names three alumni to the newly implemented external board


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The construction management program at Stephen F. Austin State University is reinforcing its structure and goals with the establishment of an external board.

The board’s three inaugural members – John Glaze, Justin Jeffus and Calli Blankenship – were selected to provide insight on the construction industry, as well as help build the program into one of the nation’s best.

Works by Beethoven, Mozart to highlight SFA Symphony Orchestra performance


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Symphony Orchestra at Stephen F. Austin State University will perform works by Beethoven and Mozart when the student ensemble performs at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 25, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

Graduate assistant conductor Oliver Yan from Hong Kong, conducting student of Dr. Gregory Grabowski, will lead the SFA Symphony Orchestra for the complete performance. Grabowski is director of orchestral activity at SFA.

The orchestra will present Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Egmont Overture” and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Symphony No. 40.

SFA’s LaGraff, Lee to present ‘Of Love and Death’ recital program


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Dr. Scott LaGraff, professor of voice at Stephen F. Austin State University, in collaboration with Dr. Minhae Lee, assistant professor of piano, will present the recital program “Of Love and Death” at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

'In Shakespeare and the Bible' rescheduled for March 18-19


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre’s presentation of  the student-directed one-act play “In Shakespeare and the Bible,” originally slated for Feb. 4 and 5, has been rescheduled for March 18 and 19.

The play was rescheduled due to the campus closure on Feb. 4 in expectation of inclement weather.

“In Shakespeare and the Bible” will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 18, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 19, in Regents Suite A in the Baker Pattillo Student Center on the SFA campus.

Lumi Trio to perform works of living composers


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Lumi Trio will present a program of works by living composers when the ensemble performs at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 15, in Cole Concert Hall on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University.

The trio includes Ruby Chia-Yun Yeh, clarinet; Daniela Diaz, violin; and Dr. Minhae Lee, piano. Lee recently joined the faculty of the School of Music at SFA as assistant professor of piano.

SFA’s Office of Multicultural Affairs hosting fifth annual Women’s Empowerment Summit


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s Office of Multicultural Affairs is hosting its fifth annual Women’s Empowerment Summit, a one-day educational event featuring breakout sessions on topics intended to empower women and educate the community on issues specific to women.

SFA Student Recreation Center to host regional basketball club tournament


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s Campus Recreation hosted the regional basketball tournament featuring 12 total teams in both men’s and women’s competitions.

The National Intramural and Recreational Sports Association’s South Division had its Club Basketball Conference Tournament at the Student Recreation Center on Feb. 19 and 20. The event brought as many as 150 student-athletes to town.
