SFA guarantees tuition for low-income families


Students whose annual family income is $25,000 or less may now attend Stephen F. Austin State University free for four years as a result of the SFA Purple Promise approved by the Board of Regents Tuesday.

Regents approve SFA appointments, promotions


The Stephen F. Austin State University Board of Regents approved a slate of faculty and staff appointments, changes of status, promotions and retirements at a meeting Tuesday.

Michael S. Fountain, professor and associate dean of forestry and agriculture, was named professor and interim dean of the Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture. Yanli Zhang was appointed assistant professor of water resources/spatial science.

"Going to Church," a 1991 11 by 14 inch gelatin silver print by Nacogdoches native Richard Orton, is one of the artist's 30 photographs included in "The Upshaws of County Line" opening at 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House.

SFA to present two guest piano recitals


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Piano enthusiasts of East Texas can mark their calendars for two guest piano recitals to be presented by the Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music.

James Nalley, a 2008 International Steinway Artist, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 29, and Kwan Yi, winner of the 2008 Schmidbauer International Young Artist Competition, will perform at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 1. Both recitals are free and will be held in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

SFA's second president honored

A historical marker honoring the contributions of Dr. Paul Lewis Boynton to Stephen F. Austin State University was dedicated Tuesday in the Founders Plaza between the Austin and Rusk buildings on the campus.

SFA Repertory Dance Company to perform


The Stephen F. Austin State University Repertory Dance Company will perform in concert Jan. 29-31 in W.M. Turner Auditorium. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, and 3 PM on Saturday.

The concert features choreography by dance program faculty and guest artists. Dance majors Ashley Dodd and Taryn Taylor also have been invited to have their senior choreographic projects produced.

Boynton marker to be dedicated at SFA


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - A historical marker honoring the contributions of Dr. Paul Lewis Boynton to Stephen F. Austin State University will be unveiled this week.

The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, in the Founders Plaza between the Austin and Rusk Buildings on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus. The public is invited to attend the event, which is being held in conjunction with the university's Board of Regents meeting and is part of SFA's yearlong 85th-anniversary celebration.

SFA's Utley to present faculty saxophone recital


SFA Associate Professor of Saxophone Brian Utley will present a faculty recital at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, in Cole Concert Hall.

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Brian Utley, associate professor of saxophone at Stephen F. Austin State University, will present a faculty recital at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 27, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus. Performing with Utley will be three other members of the SFA music faculty.
