SFA to open bee-related art exhibition, 'Hive'


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Art will open "Hive"--an exhibition of hexagonal shaped paintings made with beeswax, resin and pigment infused with heat--with a 3 p.m. artists' reception on Saturday, Nov. 13, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, 329 E. Main St. in downtown Nacogdoches.

Artists to be present for 'Fired Up' closing at SFA


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The three ceramicists whose work is included in "Fired Up: Three Regional Artists Take a Contemporary Look at Clay" will be present during Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art's closing reception for the exhibition at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 12.

The show, which opened on Sept. 24, includes works by Ken Baskin of McNeese State University in Lake Charles, La., Barbara Frey of Texas A&M Commerce, and Janet Kastner of the University of Texas at Austin.

SFA orchestra to present 'Romantic Affairs' concert

Community members invited to sing 'Messiah'


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Registrations for participation in the community-wide presentation of Georg Frideric Handel's "Messiah" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10, are now being accepted through the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music. Registration deadline is Friday, Dec. 3.

The school has a long history of presenting Handel's masterpiece during December, said Dr. Tim King, SFA professor of music and director of choral activities. "We invite singers from around the area to join their voices with the SFA combined choirs and participate in this holiday tradition."

U of H percussion ensemble to perform

SFA offers November children's art classes


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Area children may register for one of two age-appropriate art workshops offered by the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art from 4 to 6 p.m. on the first two Wednesdays in November as a part of the Creative Art Wednesday program. Classes will be held at the SFA Art Education Graduate House, located at 115 Feazell St., behind Wendy's Restaurant.

SFA to screen 'Ike: A Documentary'


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - As a part of its monthly independent film series, the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and Friends of the Visual Arts will present a free, one-night screening of "Ike: A Documentary" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5, at The Cole Art Center @ the Old Opera House, 329 E. Main St. in downtown Nacogdoches.
