SFA graduate student curates exhibition for Griffith Gallery


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art will present the exhibition "Undefined Expectations: 1970s Era Prints by British Artists" from Nov. 14 through Dec. 13 in Griffith Gallery in the Griffith Fine Arts Building on the SFA campus.

An opening reception is planned for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, in Griffith Gallery.

Taiwanese musicians to perform at SFA


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - "When East Meets West: An Evening of Taiwanese and Western Music" will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, in Cole Concert Hall on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus.

The music group from Tunghai University (Taiwan) will perform works by various Taiwanese composers. With three voice professors, one cello professor and four piano professors from Tunghai University, the ensemble will perform different types of solo and duet presentations. Works will range from Taiwanese folk songs to contemporary music pieces.

SFA School of Theatre to present 'Romeo and Juliet'

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - One of literature's greatest love stories will be set in a post-apocalyptic world when the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre presents William Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet" Nov. 19 through 23 in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the SFA campus.

Interim executive director of SFA Alumni Association named


Houston native Dale Green, a graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University, has been named interim executive director of the SFA Alumni Association, effective today.

Green joined the Alumni Association staff as director of marketing and membership in January 2011. He previously served as vice president/director of training for a private professional development/corporate training firm in the North San Francisco Bay Area. He received a Bachelor of Arts in communication from SFA in 1999 and a Master of Business Administration from California State University-Sonoma in 2011.

Father-son piano duo to perform in SFA's Cole Series


Dr. Mario Ajero, associate professor of piano at SFA, will be joined by his son, 9-year-old Antonio "Nio" Ajero, when they present "One-and-a-Half Pianists" at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

Austin State University's culinary arts program within the School of Human Sciences, recently attended a five-day Wisconsin cheese immersion experience sponsored by the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board and Emmi Roth USA, a leading provider of specialty cheeses and premium fresh dairy products.

'Meet the Creepy Crawlers' at the SFA Pineywoods Native Plant Center


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Nacogdoches Naturally will sponsor a Family Outdoor Adventure from 9 a.m. until noon Saturday, Nov. 16, at Stephen F. Austin State University's Pineywoods Native Plant Center, 2900 Raguet St.

This is the fourth year "Meet the Creepy Crawlers" has provided families an opportunity to learn about forest animals that slither, creep and crawl. This exciting event will feature live animals, "creepy crawler" crafts and a guided safari hike.

Swanson exhibition opening, SFA art fundraiser slated for Nov. 9


The work of John August Swanson will be exhibited in Reavley Gallery in Cole Art Center from Nov. 9 through Jan. 11. The opening at 6 p.m. Nov. 9 precedes the Day of the Dead Fiesta and Art Auction fundraiser presented by the SFA Friends of the Visual Arts, which begins at 7:30 p.m.

Book signing to honor local artist Corinne Jones' newest publication


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - In honor of Nacogdoches artist Corinne Jones and to celebrate the release of her newest publication, "13 Ways of Looking at a Blackbird," the Stephen F. Austin State University Press will host a reception and book signing at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 8, in the parlor of the Fredonia Hotel.

The book is Jones' visual interpretation of American poet Wallace Stevens' "Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird," which originally appeared in 1917 and was published in his first book, "Harmonium," in 1923.

NACOGDOCHES - An upcoming Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre production of "Romeo and Juliet" may be especially inviting for area high school students who are engaged in a classroom study of this classic written by William Shakespeare.
