SFA researchers develop endocides - a new approach to invasive plant control


Researchers at Stephen F, Austin State University have developed a method of controlling an invasive plant that is destroying fish and wildlife habitat, clogging water lines, and hampering boating and hydroelectric plants. Even better, their research has led to the discovery of an agent that shows promise as a cancer treatment.

SFA's A Cappella Choir to perform its tour concert


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present the A Cappella Choir performing the group's tour concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 28, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

The concert will feature the program the choir will sing while touring the Houston and Bryan/College Station areas Feb. 23 through 26 for the purpose of recruiting future Lumberjack choral students, according to Tim King, director of choral activities at SFA and the choir's conductor.

City of Tomorrow quintet to perform at SFA


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The City of Tomorrow, a leading international ensemble dedicated to the performance and creation of new music for winds, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, in Cole Concert Hall on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus as part of the Cole Performing Arts Series.

SFA appoints new executive director of alumni relations


A new executive director of alumni relations has been appointed at Stephen F. Austin State University. Craig Turnage, who previously served as a senior major gifts officer for the SFA Office of Development, will transition to the new position immediately.

'Texas Art Quilts' curator to lecture Saturday at Cole Art Center


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Dr. Sandra Sider, curator of the exhibition "Texas Art Quilts 1993-2011" currently on display in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, will present a lecture at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at the art center in downtown Nacogdoches.

"Texas Art Quilts" presents 26 works by Texas artists, completed between 1993 and 2011. The works in "Texas Art Quilts" were selected by Sider, critic and curator, from a much larger group of quilts premiering at the Houston quilt festival in "Lone Stars III," according to John Handley, director of art galleries at SFA.

SFA fan bus heading to Huntsville for basketball doubleheader


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University Alumni Association will provide a bus for SFA alumni and fans to travel from Nacogdoches to Huntsville Saturday, Feb. 15, for the Lumberjack and Ladyjack basketball games against Sam Houston State University.

The fan bus will depart promptly at 10:45 a.m. Saturday from the Tracie D. Pearman Alumni Center and will arrive at the Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum prior to the Ladyjacks' 1:30 p.m. tip-off. The bus will depart following the conclusion of the Lumberjack game and return to Nacogdoches after a stop for dinner.

SFA to stage student-directed 'Language of Angels'


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre will present the student-directed one-act play "Language of Angels" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, in the Downstage Theatre on the SFA campus.

Written by Naomi Iizuka, "Language of Angels" will be directed by junior theatre major Sarah Chavez of Nacogdoches. The play is set in North Carolina where a group of friends enter a cave, and one of the girls disappears.

Percussionist James Campbell to perform with SFA student musicians


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - World-renowned percussionist James Campbell will perform with the SFA Percussion Ensemble at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, in Cole Concert Hall in the Wright Music Building on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus.

The concert, presented by the SFA Percussion Studio under the direction of Dr. Brad Meyer, will feature several of Campbell's compositions he has written throughout the past two decades.

Noted flutist Pallottelli to perform at SFA


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present internationally acclaimed flutist Sergio Pallottelli in concert at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, in Cole Concert Hall in the Wright Music Building as part of the Cole Performing Arts Series.
