NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Wind Ensemble at Stephen F. Austin State University will present "Homecoming Fiesta!" when the student group performs the music of Richard Strauss, Frank Ticheli, Paul Hart, Richard Wagner and Clifton Williams at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the SFA campus.

Featured guest performers will be the SFA Faculty Brass Quintet, which includes Jake Walburn and Gary Wurtz, trumpets; Charles Gavin, horn; Deb Scott, trombone; and J.D. Salas, tuba.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band at Stephen F. Austin State University will present the concert program "Journeys" at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the SFA campus.

The Wind Symphony, directed by Dr. Tamey Anglley, associate director of bands at SFA, and the Symphonic Band, directed by Chris Kaatz, assistant director of bands, will perform works that represent various types of journeys.

The Symphonic Band will open the concert with Charles Carter's "Overture for Winds," followed by Frank Ticheli's "Earth Song."

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre will host the internationally renowned Shakespeare & Company from Lenox, Maine, in a weekend intensive study of the language and text of William Shakespeare's works March 8 through 10 on the SFA campus.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University's SFA Gardens will host the Gifts from the Garden workshop to share methods for creating skin creams, scrubs and tea from natural products.

The event will run from 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 9 in the Brundrett Conservation Education Building, Room 101, at the SFA Pineywoods Native Plant Center, 2900 Raguet St.

Jodi and Duke Pittman of Pittman Farms will lead the workshop. Participants will use a variety of oils and waxes, including coconut oil and beeswax, with dried herbs and essential oils to craft their samples.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University Board of Regents voted unanimously to hire a Dallas-based executive search firm with a history in higher education to lead the search for a new president for SFA.

R. William Funk & Associates has placed presidents for universities including Rutgers, Purdue, Auburn, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Southern Methodist and Clemson.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University's Office of Multicultural Affairs is hosting its annual MLK Celebration to honor the life and legacy of civil rights activist Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at 7 p.m. Feb. 19 in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Twilight Ballroom.

"This event is a time to celebrate Black History Month by honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in addition to other black leaders," said Veronica Beavers, OMA director. "We use this time to educate the community and celebrate through performances and networking."

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University will host its fourth annual Darwin Day program from noon to 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, in the Kennedy Auditorium with featured speaker Dr. Michael Zimmerman presenting “The Confluence of Religion and Science.”

An annual celebration of science, Darwin Day is held on or around evolutionary biologist Charles Darwin’s birthday to commemorate his contributions to the field of biology.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Percussion Ensemble at Stephen F. Austin State University will perform at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

Directed by Dr. Brad Meyer and Dr. Ben Tomlinson, the ensemble will present a preview of its showcase concert to be performed at the 2019 Texas Music Educators Association Convention on Feb. 14 in San Antonio.

The preview concert features “Gandrung” by Bill Alves; “Ritmica No. 5” by Amadeo Roldán; “B-Radicles” by Brad Meyer; “Lost in Thought” by Andrew Patzig; and “Boom Bap” by Nick Werth.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The School of Music at Stephen F. Austin State University has established a scholarship to honor Dr. Tim King, the former director of choral activities at SFA who retired in 2017.

The Tim King Choral Scholarship is being unveiled this week to coincide with the annual convention of the Texas Music Educators Association Feb. 13 through 16 in San Antonio.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre will present David Lindsay-Abaire's one-act play "Crazy Eights" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Feb. 16, in the Downstage Theatre on the SFA campus.
