Brave Space Series at SFA to showcase ‘The Mountaintop: A Journey to True Unity’


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The Stephen F. Austin State University Office of Multicultural Affairs will present "The Mountaintop: A Journey to True Unity," the second installment in its Brave Space Series of the spring semester, at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center's Multimedia Room.

SFA Board of Regents elects officers


The Stephen F. Austin State University Board of Regents elected officers during its January quarterly meeting.

Alton Frailey of Katy was elected by members of the board to serve as chair. He served for nine years as superintendent of Katy Independent School District and is currently serving as interim superintendent of the Nacogdoches Independent School District. He is president of Alton L. Frailey & Associates, a consulting firm specializing in leadership development, community engagement and executive coaching.

Powerhouse Argentine-based dance company Che Malambo to perform at SFA


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The College of Fine Arts at Stephen F. Austin State University will present the Argentine-based dance company Che Malambo in an exciting University Series performance at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the SFA campus.

Guest artists to present flute, cello, piano recital


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Works by Peteris Plakidis, Cherise Leiter, George Crumb and others will be presented in a flute, cello and piano guest recital to be performed at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, in Cole Concert Hall on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University.

SFA preservice teachers have unique experience at Las Americas Newcomer School


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — About 40 English-speaking preservice teachers from Stephen F. Austin State University’s disciplinary literacy course are learning a lesson in Turkish from an instructor at Las Americas Newcomer School, part of the Houston Independent School District. When the SFA preservice teachers can’t answer the instructor’s questions fast enough, she speaks slower and louder. This goes on for 45 minutes.

SFA Beef Farm barn replacement facility to be constructed


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University Beef Farm at the Walter C. Todd Agricultural Research Center is a home base for students studying the agricultural industry. It supports research opportunities for both undergraduate and graduate students, and approximately 5,300 guests visit the center each year for community events, tours and high-school agricultural competitions.

Unfortunately, a barn at the Beef Farm was destroyed by a November 2018 fire.

SFA School of Music ranks high in GradReport’s list of top bachelor’s degrees in U.S.


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The college and university review guide GradReports has ranked Stephen F. Austin State University as No. 5 in the nation in its 25 Best Music Schools 2020 report.
 
The 25 schools on the list offer the top bachelor's degrees in music, based on median salary one year out of college. GradReports uses alumni earnings data from the government and real student reviews to help people make decisions about their education and career.
 

SFA Gardens to host Little Princess Tea Party


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Princesses from across East Texas are invited to don their best ball gown and sip tea with friends during the SFA Gardens' annual Little Princess Tea Party slated for Saturday, March 28, in the Stephen F. Austin State University Ruby M. Mize Azalea Garden.

SFA to host Showcase Saturday for prospective students


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Future college students will have the opportunity to experience a taste of campus life during a free, action-packed open house Saturday, Feb. 22, at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches.

Prospective students can visit with university faculty and staff, tour the campus and residence halls, and preview academic programs during SFA’s Showcase Saturday event.

SFA’s Scott, Nixon to perform new works for trombone, piano


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – A recital of new solo works for trombone and piano will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 20, in Cole Concert Hall on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University.
