Faculty recital to feature selections from LaGraff CD


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music will present a faculty recital featuring Scott LaGraff, baritone, and Hyun Ji Oh, pianist, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 23, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

LaGraff will perform works by some of his favorite composers along with selections from his latest CD, "Incline Thine Ear and Other Sacred Songs." Kimberly LaGraff, mezzo soprano, will join her husband for selected duets.

School of Theatre to present student-directed 'Haiku'


The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre will present the one-act play "Haiku" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 23, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 24, in the Downstage Theatre on the SFA campus.

Written by Katherine Snodgrass, "Haiku" will be directed by Houston senior theatre major Tevia Loeser. The play is about a mother's love, one sister's struggle with doing what is right and another sister who may be gifted a artist with an impaired mind. "Haiku" won the Heideman Award at Actors Theatre of Louisville.

SFA Gardens to host Earth Day celebration and plant sale


Stephen F. Austin State University's SFA Gardens will host its annual Garden Gala Day Plant Sale and SFA Earth Day Celebration from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 7, at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, 2900 Raguet St., in historic Nacogdoches.

SFA nursing students to hold event benefiting area hospices


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The Stephen F. Austin State University DeWitt School of Nursing will hold a bingo night benefiting area hospices 6 p.m. Tuesday at the DeWitt School of Nursing Complex.

Hosted by fourth semester nursing students, the event gives people “the opportunity to give back to our community and support our elderly and student populations in Nacogdoches,” said Megan Miller, senior nursing student from Fort Worth.

SFA Gardens to host Little Princess Tea Party

SFA professor wins 2018 Texas City Management Association Award


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Dr. Richard Herzog, Stephen F. Austin State University Texas Certified Public Manager Program Director, Master of Public Administration Program faculty, and professor of political science and public administration, recently received the 2018 Terrell Blodgett Academician of the Year Award from the Texas City Management Association.

According to the TCMA website, “The award is presented to an academician who has made a significant contribution to the formal education of students pursuing careers in local government.”

ATCOFA to host lecture by renowned hydrologist


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture will host a public lecture beginning at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 20, in Forestry Building, Room 117, located at 419 East College St.

Dr. George G. Ice, retired hydrologist with the National Council for Air and Stream Improvement, will present “Three Lessons about Managing Forests to Protect Water Quality: The Alsea Watershed Study Revisited.”

Forestry students complete conservation projects in Montgomery County


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Members of Stephen F. Austin State University’s student chapter of the Society of American Foresters recently collaborated with a number of partners including Rotary International, the Texas A&M Forest Service and Trees For Houston to promote conservation and urban tree health in Montgomery County.

“I applaud the students for helping make the conservation movement stronger in Montgomery County,” said John Warner, urban district forester for the Texas A&M Forest Service.

Tickets still available for Barefoot Movement bluegrass concert


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Tickets are still available for the upcoming concert of The Barefoot Movement when the exciting, young bluegrass band performs at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 8, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University.

The performance is the last in this year’s University Series presented by the SFA College of Fine Arts.
