NACOGDOCHES, Texas — A team of mass communication, art and marketing students from Stephen F. Austin State University recently won Best Media Plan at the American Advertising Federation’s National Student Advertising Competition in Corpus Christi.
SFA students to present during chemistry and biochemistry research symposium
NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Fifteen Stephen F. Austin State University seniors from the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry will participate in a research symposium beginning at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the Math Building.
“In our undergraduate research experience, all students pick a research topic and faculty mentor according to their personal interest and career goals,” said Dr. Michele Harris, professor and assistant chair of the department.

Stroud named distinguished alumnus
Sid Stroud was named 2018 Distinguished Alumnus of Stephen F. Austin State University’s Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture during the college’s annual scholarship banquet held this month.
Stroud graduated with a Bachelor of Science in forestry from SFA in 1978, and has served in a wide array of research, environmental and regulatory positions in his nearly 44 years with Luminant, a subsidiary of Vistra Energy and the largest coal mining operation in Texas.
SFA student outreach program offers students opportunity to volunteer around the world
NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University students interested in making a difference in lives across the globe now have that opportunity with the student chapter of the medical outreach program Volunteers Around the World.
Students involved in the program can work with patients and doctors, distribute medications, and teach classes on health hygiene and nutrition in clinics located in Central and South America and Asia.
The student chapter was started by Mary Dang, junior biology major from Sugar Land, after a medical mission trip to Costa Rica.
Rockin’ Axes to perform music from ’90s through new millennium
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Rockin’ Axes at Stephen F. Austin State University will continue performing music of “The ’90s and the New Millennium” when the student group performs at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 3, in Cole Concert Hall in the Wright Music Building on the SFA campus.
SFA Wind Symphony to present ‘Red Sky’ concert
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Wind Symphony at Stephen F. Austin State University will present “Red Sky,” a concert featuring the music of J. Clifton Williams, Anthony Barfield and Steven Reineke, at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 30, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the SFA campus.
Dr. Deb Scott, professor of trombone in the SFA School of Music, will perform on Barfield’s composition for trombone and band, “Red Sky.”
SFA bands to present annual Concert in the Park
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The bands at Stephen F. Austin State University will present the annual Concert in the Park Sunday, April 29, in the wooded area along Vista Drive and in front of the Wright Music Building on the SFA campus. The concert begins at 2 p.m. and is free to the public.
All four SFA concert bands will perform. Opening the concert will be the University Band, under the direction of David Campo, associate director of bands, and graduate assistant Brandon Beavers.
Dr. Patrick Jenlink to present in Regents Lecture Series
NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Dr. Patrick Jenlink, Stephen F. Austin State University’s 2017-18 Regents Professor, will present at the Regents Lecture Series at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, in the Janice A. Pattillo Early Childhood Research Center, Room 212.
Popular family favorite, comedy-drama highlight SummerStage Festival at SFA
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The SummerStage Festival at Stephen F. Austin State University will present a fun and funny children’s musical and an emotionally powerful American play in its 2018 summer theatre season.
Make plans early to enjoy this year’s SummerStage Festival, which is slated for June 29 through July 19 with performances in W.M. Turner Auditorium and the Downstage Theatre. Both venues are in Griffith Fine Arts Building on the SFA campus. This year’s plays are “Pinkalicious the Musical” and “Crimes of the Heart.” The festival is sponsored in part by Tipton Ford Lincoln.
