SFA nutrition students to participate in Cooking Matters program


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University students in the School of Human Sciences met with Angie Shoffner, nutrition education specialist for the East Texas Food Bank, Monday to kick off a six-week program and class project, Cooking Matters.

Danceworks: Reflections production to feature SFA dance program, Repertory Dance Company


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s dance program and Repertory Dance Company will showcase senior choreographic works and company pieces during its production of Danceworks: Reflections, which premieres at 7 p.m. Oct. 21 in Turner Auditorium on the university’s campus.

A second showing is scheduled for 2 and 7 p.m. Oct. 22. Tickets cost $8 for students, $10 for faculty and staff members and seniors and $12 for general admission and can be purchased at the door.

SFA’s University Series to present Big Head Blues Club


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – As part of its 2016-17 University Series, the College of Fine Arts at Stephen F. Austin State University will present an exciting performance of the Big Head Blues Club at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 13, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the SFA campus.

SFA announces test-optional admissions for 2021 semesters


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Mirroring state and national trends to streamline admission procedures in the wake of the ongoing pandemic, Stephen F. Austin State University’s Office of Admissions has announced it will begin test-optional admissions for all 2021 terms.

This decision was prompted by the cancellation of SAT and ACT exam administration as testing centers across the state struggle to accommodate test participants due to required social distancing standards.

Cole Series to feature guest bassoon, piano recital


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music will present Ann Shoemaker and Kae Hosoda-Ayer in a guest bassoon and piano recital at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

SFA to screen ‘La Camioneta’ documentary


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and the Friends of the Visual Arts will present a free, one-night screening of “La Camioneta” at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

Business leaders to speak at SFA Leadership Summit Nov. 3


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s Rusche College of Business will host the SFA Leadership Summit from 2 - 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Theater on the university’s campus.

Dr. Trey Turner, executive director of development at SFA, said the summit will feature a panel discussion with seven successful alumni about leadership principles and business and corporate issues.

Swingin' Axes, Aces to perform music of jazz greats Nestico, Holman


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music will present the Swingin’ Axes and Swingin’ Aces jazz bands performing at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

Among the highlights of the concert will be a performance of Radiohead’s “Everything In Its Right Place,” arranged by James Miley, said Dr. Deb Scott, professor of trombone and director of the Axes.

“This arrangement of this modern rock song uses electronic effects and vocals, some of which I’ll be singing, to create a contemporary jazz sound,” Scott said.

Acclaimed poet to present at SFA


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s Department of English and Creative Writing is hosting Dr. David Baker, a poet, professor and editor, who will read a selection of his personal works at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, in Dugas Liberal Arts North, Room 142.

SFA to host ‘Green is the New Black’ event to raise sustainability awareness


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Hospitality administration and fashion merchandising students in Stephen F. Austin State University’s School of Human Sciences are raising awareness about sustainability with a “Green is the New Black” event from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 12, in the Culinary Café, located in the Education Annex Building on the university’s campus.

The event will feature a three-course dinner, a runway show and a fashion gallery tour, which will showcase the students’ event-planning, culinary and design skills.
