Resources for
First-Generation Students
More than 40% of SFA's student body — approximately 5,000
Lumberjacks — are first-generation college students!
What does it mean to be a first-generation student?
First-generation (commonly referred to as first-gen) college students are those whose parents or guardians have not graduated with a bachelor's degree in the United States.

Striving to offer a welcoming campus for first-gen Lumberjacks and their parents, we're proud to offer support, understanding and opportunities to get involved as you navigate this new adventure. We're here to help guide you!
