Getting involved

Joining a professional society, club, organization or honor society is a great way to make friends, get to know your professors, connect with professionals in the field and become a more successful student. SFA is home to more than 200 student clubs and organizations, including clubs for students interested in public health, kinesiology, school psychology, rehabilitation and speech-language pathology.

For more information about health science and kinesiology related clubs and organizations, you can contact the program coordinator or view SFA clubs and organizations to find the best fit for your interests.

Student organizations

The Department of Allied Health Studies offers student organizations that will help you meet like-minded Lumberjacks, get career advice and participate in a variety of social events and community service projects.

Organization of Athletic Training Students

This organization is for undergraduate and graduate students who are interested in athletic training and related fields. Since it was founded in 2004, the Organization of Athletic Training Students’ focus has been to help cover travel expenses for members attending professional meetings. The organization also supports nonprofit organizations.

The Alliance

This student group provides opportunities for members to meet with public health and kinesiology faculty, as well as local professionals, to learn more about the fields that interest them. Members also attend conferences, workshops and meetings; coordinate with local and state organization activities; and work to increase public understanding and appreciation for health science and kinesiology.

National Student Speech Language Hearing Association

The National Student Speech Language Hearing Association is the only national student organization for pre-professionals studying communication sciences and disorders recognized by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Established in 1972, NSSLHA is headquartered in Rockville, Maryland, and supports over 12,000 members.

The SFA chapter is proud to be one of more than 320 chapters at colleges and universities nationwide. We inspire, empower and support each other by sharing knowledge and tools to strengthen our academics while preparing for our careers in the field of communication sciences and disorders.
