Keeping our fingers on the pulse of industry
In 1974, SFA established the Computer Science Advisory Council with the purpose of keeping our curriculum relevant to the current job market and the dynamic field of computing.
Each year, council members from various industries visit the campus and meet with the faculty to discuss trends in industrial computing and topics for inclusion in current and new courses. Council members also complete a survey that helps ensure our graduates are prepared for their job requirements.
During the council's annual meetings, seniors and a select group of sophomores from the Department of Computer Science have lunch with these professional leaders to discuss career paths and seek advice, which frequently leads to consideration for internships and jobs.
The council is currently made up of a number of professionals from prominent businesses with a strong presence in east Texas and the gulf coast region, and many of its representatives are SFA graduates themselves.
