A well-equipped environment
Studying biology at a university situated amongst one of the most diverse ecosystems in Texas is a natural choice. But SFA's resources are not limited to the habitats surrounding it. The university is equipped with millions of dollars of high-tech equipment.
As a biology student at SFA, you’ll have access to multiple resources and equipment, including:
- A tissue culture facility
- Transmission and scanning electron microscopes
- A 4-bay, 665-square-meter greenhouse, plus other campus facilities at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center
- The ASTC Herbarium, which is home to more than 79,000 plant specimens from across North America, making it the fourth-largest collection in Texas
- Vertebrate teaching collections with specimens representing hundreds of species of fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals
- The Gibson Entomarium, which houses one of the largest collections of invertebrates in Texas
- Three national forests near campus (more than 250,000 hectares of federally managed habitat for field studies)
