Gayla Mize Gardens

Named in honor of longtime SFA Gardens friend and a driving force behind the creation of the Nacogdoches Azalea Trail, the Gayla Mize Garden is located at the corner of University Drive and Starr Avenue with a portion of the SFA's multiuse and bike trails winding through the beautiful scenery. The garden is open from dawn to dusk.

  • Distributed throughout the gardens.
    • Deciduous azaleas: Beds 19, 20B, 20E, 20G and 30
    • Reblooming azaleas: Beds 20A, 20C, 20D and 20F

Gardenias

  • Peak bloom season:  May to August
  • Distributed throughout the gardens.

  • Pine, dogwood, redbud, magnolia, sweetgum, baldcypress and more.

Unique trees

  • Distributed throughout the gardens.
  • Chinese dogwoods, Japanese maples, ‘Little Jim’ magnolia and ‘Cascade Falls’ baldcypress.
