You may be eligible for an off-campus permit for the fall 2026 semester if you:
- are a first-time, first-year student
- and meet one of the following:
- live within a 60-mile radius of campus
- be 21 years of age
- be married
- or have at least one dependent.
Note: Off-campus permits are not needed during the summer terms.
Applying for an off-campus permit
- Request an off-campus permit through the Residence Life portal in mySFA.
- Submit the permit application and any additional documents as requested by Residence Life.
Waiting on approval
Status updates are available in the Residence Life portal. It is your responsibility to follow up on your application to see if it's been approved. If you do not have an off-campus permit in place by the first day of class for the semester, room and board charges will be added to your eBill account. These charges will continue to accrue until your off-campus request has been completed and approved.
Approval decision
- Denied requests: If your off-campus permit request is denied, you are required to live on campus for the upcoming semester.
- Approved requests: If your off-campus permit request is approved, you'll receive a notification through your SFA email account.
- You will not need to renew your request for the spring semester.
