Become an American Red Cross Instructor

CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Instructor

This course is designed to train instructors to teach the American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid courses.

You must:

• be at least 16 years old on the last day of the class
• and possess a current American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer certification.

Lifeguard Instructor

Take your skills to the next level, and learn how to train instructors to teach American Red Cross Lifeguarding courses, including CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid.

You must:

• be at least 17 years old on or before the final scheduled session of the course
• possess a current certification in Lifeguarding with CPR/AED for professional Rescuer
• successfully complete the online Introduction to the Lifeguarding Instructor course prior to the pre-course skills session, which includes a swim-tread-swim event and a brick retrieval
• and obtain all participant materials before entering the first session of the course. Materials consist of the lifeguarding course presentation and/or DVD, the American Red Cross Lifeguarding Manual (print or digital) and the American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor’s Manual (print).

Water Safety Instructor

Teach others how to be safe around water. Teach others how to swim.

Are you ready to develop the advanced aquatic skills and knowledge required to teach others how to be safer and better swimmers. With a WSI certificate, you'll be prepared to instruct people of all ages and varying abilities how to swim and be safe around water.

Using logical progression, this course is held over two weekends to give you enough time to fully learn and understand the material. Participants who successfully complete the course earn a Water Safety Instructor certificate valid for two years.
