SFA celebrating 85th anniversary


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - In celebration of Stephen F. Austin State University's 85th anniversary, cake and ice cream will be served at noon Thursday at the Baker Pattillo Student Center plaza.

The public is invited to take part in the celebration, which will be attended by university administration, faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends of SFA, as well as local dignitaries. Other special events marking the anniversary are planned for later in the academic year.

SFA children's series to present musical 'Otherwise Known as Sheila the Great'


ArtsPower National Touring Theatre will present a live musical version of Judy Blume's "Otherwise Knows as Sheila the Great" at 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, in W.M. Turner Auditorium as part of the Stephen F. Austin State University's Chidren's Performing Arts Series.

SFA's children's art workshop rescheduled


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Creative Arts Saturday workshop for area 6- to 12-year-olds that had to be cancelled Saturday, Sept. 13, because of Hurricane Ike has been rescheduled for 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 27, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, 329 E. Main St. in downtown Nacogdoches.

Under the guidance of Stephen F. Austin State University art education majors and Assistant Professor Marsha Blount, participants will learn proportions for drawing a face and create monochromatic self-portrait watercolor paintings.

SFA's Piney Woods Camerata rescheduled for Sept. 21


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music has announced that the Piney Woods Camerata concert originally scheduled for 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept 14, will now be presented at 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, in Cole Concert Hall.

The conductor-less string ensemble is led by SFA string faculty members Jennifer Dalmas, violin; Gene H. Moon viola; and Evgeni Raychev, cello. High school string players from around the region will join the trio in presenting compositions by W.A. Mozart and Sir Edward Elgar.

SFA classes resume


All classes at Stephen F. Austin State University, including the SFA Charter School, Early Childhood Lab and all administrative offices, will resume a normal schedule on Tuesday, Sept. 16.

SFA cancels Monday Classes - Update


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - All classes at Stephen F. Austin State University are canceled for Monday, Sept. 15, including the Early Childhood Lab and Charter School. All administrative offices also will be closed.

Essential personnel should report to work. If you have any questions about whether you should report, contact your immediate supervisor.

Mary Pack to head SFA nursing extension program in Rusk

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University's School of Nursing has chosen Mary Pack as coordinator of the School of Nursing extension program at Rusk State Hospital.

The program will give students in East Texas the opportunity to take nursing classes closer to home, allowing the university to educate a greater number of nurses.

Ceramics exhibition opens at SFA

SFA presents student-directed 'The Rising of the Moon'


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre will present a student production of "The Rising of the Moon" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20, in the Downstage Theatre of the Griffith Fine Arts Building.

The one act play by Irish playwright Lady Augusta Gregory is an inspirational story about the Irish ideal of freedom, explained Nate Reid, Austin senior who is directing the play.
