SFA Office of Public Affairs earns awards at conference

Staff members from Stephen F. Austin State University's Office of Public Affairs earned a total of five awards at the Council for Advancement and Support of Education's recent District IV conference in Oklahoma City, Okla.

SFA announces teaching excellence awards


Six Stephen F. Austin State University faculty members will be honored for their teaching abilities at the annual SFA Teaching Excellence Convocation Thursday, April 16, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Twilight Ballroom.

SFA's 85th anniversary event to feature media experts


Stephen F. Austin State University's yearlong 85th anniversary celebration will continue at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, with a panel discussion titled "The Changing Face of the Media" in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Theatre.

May-mester returns to summer schedule


NACOGDOCHES, Tex.-Due to the success of Stephen F. Austin State University's inaugural May-mester session in 2008, a 12-day term will be offered again this summer. The May-mester session will begin on May 18 and end June 3.

SFA, community to host cooperative forum


NACOGDOCHES, Texas-Stephen F. Austin State University and community leaders will host a cooperative forum April 23 and 24 on the SFA campus.

The seminar is titled "Community Development in a Time of Change: A Discussion about University and Community Cooperation." The public forum is designed to open lines of communication between the university and community leaders in order to effectively work together and make an impact in the lives of East Texans.

SFA art and poetry included in 'Pen and Pigment'


Lynn Allgood, SFA art student enrolled in Chad Erpelding's advanced painting class, works on a piece that is included in the exhibition, "Pen & Pigment," a collaborative project between SFA painting and poetry students that will be shown in Griffith Gallery April 14 through 17.

SFA to present the Piney Woods Camerata in concert


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present the Piney Woods Camerata at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 16, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

This will be the fourth concert presented by the conductor-less ensemble created in 2007. Performers for this concert include SFA string students and faculty members Jennifer Dalmas, violin; Christina Guenther, flute; Gene H. Moon, viola; and Evgeni Raychev, cello.

SFA to stage student-directed 'The Weir'


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The SFA College of Fine Arts and School of Theatre will present a student production of Conor McPherson's "The Weir" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 17, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 18. All shows are in the Downstage Theatre of the Griffith Fine Arts Building, 2222 Alumni Dr.

SFA A Cappella Choir to present previews of Italy tour concerts


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - While touring Italy May 20 through 30, the SFA A Cappella Choir will perform in six different venues, sometimes presenting a concert program and at other times singing the music for a Mass. East Texans will have an opportunity to hear both programs at Sacred Heart Catholic Church the weekend of April 18 and 19.

Egg Hunt Planned at SFA Pineywoods Native Plant Center


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Gather up your Easter baskets and get ready for the 10th annual Tucker Memorial Easter Egg Hunt at the SFA Pineywoods Native Plant Center and Forest Resources Institute on Saturday, April 11, at 2900 Raguet St.

Children of all ages can participate in the egg hunt, as well as games, face painting and nature hikes along the trails. Learn about the Caddo Indian culture from Texas Parks and Wildlife staff, and visit with special guest, Smokey The Bear.
