SFA Regents appoint forestry dean to endowed chair position


The Stephen F. Austin State University Board of Regents has honored the dean of the Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture by appointing him as the Henry M. Rockwell Chair in Forestry. Dr. Steven Bullard, who has served as dean of the college since 2009, will serve both roles concurrently.

The Rockwell Chair was established by the SFA Board of Regents in 1989 following receipt of an endowment from the estate of Henry M. Rockwell, a lumberyard owner with facilities in Houston and other cities in Texas, New Mexico and Arizona.

SFA students help improve the Port Jefferson History and Nature Center


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - As spring approaches, the City of Jefferson and Collins Academy, a program developed to create educational and economic opportunities for the community, prepare to institute land management recommendations provided by students in Stephen F. Austin State University's Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture for the Port Jefferson History and Nature Center.

SFA Gardens Lecture Series to feature plant sale preview


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University's SFA Gardens will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 12, in the Ina Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, 2900 Raguet St. in Nacogdoches.

SFA Gardens horticulturists Dave Creech, Dawn Stover and Greg Grant will present "A Plant Preview of the Upcoming Garden Gala Plant Sale." Their combined program will present information, as well as provide images of the new, popular and more unusual plants available at the upcoming sale.

Choral Union, Women's Choir to perform 'Reflections from the Camps'


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Choral Union and Women's Choir at Stephen F. Austin State University will present a concert in remembrance of the Holocaust victims of World War II when the ensembles perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 12, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

The program, "Reflections from the Camps," will also feature Dr. Evgeni Raychev, cello; Shirley Watterston, piano; Sherri Fleshner, viola; and SFA vocal area faculty, narrators and soloists.

Heterodyne Duo recital canceled


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - A recital by the Heterodyne Duo, originally scheduled for 6 p.m. March 12 in Cole Concert Hall on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus, has been canceled.

Flute, piano duo to perform guest recital at SFA


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Terri and Gabriel Sánchez will perform a guest flute and piano concert at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 11, in Cole Concert Hall on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus.

Part of the Cole Performing Arts Series, the recital will feature the music of Frédéric Chopin, Katherine Hoover, George Barrère, George Chave, Joachim Andersen and Cecile Chaminade.

Staged reading of 'Mom and Dad' to help fund School of Theatre's Scotland trip


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - An upcoming Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre event will help raise funds for theatre students to travel to Edinburgh, Scotland, in August where they will present an SFA student-written play at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Schmidbauer Competition winner to perform with Orchestra of the Pines


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The winner of the 2015 Schmidbauer Young Artist Competition at Stephen F. Austin State University will be the guest violinist when the Orchestra of the Pines performs at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 10, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

Fiona Shea, 15, of Lubbock, who took first place in this year's piano and strings competition, will perform as guest soloist when the orchestra performs the first movement of Khachaturian's violin concerto, according to Dr. Gene Moon, director of orchestral studies at SFA.
