Virtual museum exhibition highlights SFA students' experiences in Germany


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - A group of Stephen F. Austin State University students will present an exhibition highlighting their travels and experiences during a spring break study abroad program when they present "Modern Germany Memory," a virtual museum exhibition, from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 7, in Griffith Gallery on the SFA campus.

SFA Gardens Lecture Series to feature designer of Mize Azalea Garden


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University's SFA Gardens will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 14, in the Ina Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, 2900 Raguet St. in Nacogdoches.

Barbara Stump, research associate for development for SFA Gardens, will present "SFA Gardens - My Azalea Retrospective, the Unabridged Version."

Piney Woods Camerata to perform beloved music from Baroque period


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Piney Woods Camerata at Stephen F. Austin State University will present "La Follia," a recital featuring some of the most beloved orchestral works from the Baroque period, at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, May 3, in Cole Concert Hall on the SFA campus.

Among the composers to be included in the concert are Antonio Vivaldi, J. S. Bach, Henry Purcell and Francesco Geminiani, according to Dr. Evgeni Raychev, SFA cello instructor and director of the ensemble.

SFA's Children's Performing Arts Series to present 'The Lightning Thief'


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and the Children's Performing Arts Series will conclude the 2014-2015 CPAS season with two performances of "The Lightning Thief" on Tuesday, May 12.

"'The Lightning Thief' is a funny, action-packed musical," said Diane Peterson, manager of the SFA Fine Arts Box Office and director of the series. "This exciting national touring production is fast-paced and imaginative and targets students in second grade and up."

SFA to host newly integrated Bright Ideas Conference April 29


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The 2015 Stephen F. Austin State University Bright Ideas Conference, highlighting faculty research, scholarship and artistry, will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center on SFA's campus.

Choral Masterworks Concert to feature Brahms' Requiem


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts and School of Music will present the final performance of the 2014-2015 University Series featuring the Choral Masterworks Concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 8, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the SFA campus.

SFA Wind Ensemble to present 'Chiaroscuro'


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Wind Ensemble at Stephen F. Austin State University will present "Chiaroscuro" at 5 p.m. Sunday, May 3, in the Grand Ballroom of the Baker Pattillo Student Center.

The concert title, "Chiaroscuro," is a term used in drawing and painting, according to Fred J. Allen, director of bands at SFA and conductor of the ensemble.

"It refers to the contrast between light and shadow," he said.

The major work of the concert is "Wine-Dark Sea" by American composer John Mackey.

Spring in the Park slated for May 3


NACOGDOCHES, Texas -Stephen F. Austin State University's Beta Phi cast of Alpha Psi Omega national theatre honor society will host Spring in the Park, a community-wide afternoon of family fun, from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, May 3, in Pioneer Park.

The annual fundraiser will feature face painting, carnival games, a kickball tournament, field day events and a pie in the face booth. Individual event tickets are $1, or a $15 unlimited games wristband will be available for purchase.
